The '56 Goldtop has alnico P90s in it. Going to go with P90s on my next guitar. I have a set of Seymour humbuckers in my current guitar, next I want the P90 sound.Originally posted by: Fritzo
Isn't that Epi's '56 Les Paul repro? Epiphone usually does a good job on body construction but their pickups and tuners are usually poor-fair quality. If you could find one and put some Gibson Burstbuckers on it it would probably sound pretty damned authentic(Burstbuckers are actually '57 pickups. The '56 pickups were Gibson's "Soapbar" pickups, which were kind of noisy). I wouldn't mind finding one to check out. I love classic guitars (I wish I could afford Gibson's LP '58 repro- that neck is PERFECT for my hand but I'd have to decide if I want to dump $4g's on one or dump my wife
She won't let me buy pricey stuff anymore since I'm not making money playing anymore![]()
Kind of concerend. Tried what I think was an Epiphone LP Classic Plus today and it felt kind of cheap. I need to try a few more before I buy. Heck, Plan B is to get an Agile AL-2500 Goldtop for $200, swap the pups and still be $200 ahead of the Epiphone price.
