aftermarket rx480 is faster than both furyx and aftermarket fury

There's only a few examples where this may be the case...but the vast majority of benchmarks put the Fury ahead of the RX 480...the vast majority of benchmarks also have the 390X ahead of the RX 480.

Now that I am thinking about it more... I do have one of those 27" 1440P QNIX monitors.

What GPU would work best if I do choose to play on 1440P at one point?

Is the 1440P Qnix a good monitor still?

My gut is to hold out a little longer to see if Vega drops.

Cheap fury is the best buy for 1440p. I'm using one @ ultrawide 3440x1440 and it does amazing.

I think you mean it does better in unoptimized gameworks titles, because of the newer hardware based culling to do the optimization the devs didn't.

The division:

https://www.computerbase.de/2016-12/the-division-dx12-benchmark/

Fury is 28% faster DX11, 35% DX12 in both 1080p and even higher (36% DX11) @ 1440p.

Latest dishonored patch they are basically even but fury has better minimums:

Fury is generally faster no doubt, but as I said it depends if you want such a massive card with 3 cooling fans, its louder when gaming, it consumes more power and with its unbalanced approach to shaders vs textures, I don't know how well it will be going forward, whether the RX 480 is more balanced and AMD will obviously support it is a stronger way!

Yea I agree with you on pretty much every point. Don't really understand why people keep pushing a huge, power hungry last gen card, when the 480 is a very good buy, is more efficient, and will be supported longer.

Price.

Fury have been under $250 which is the same market as the 480s or even cheaper sometimes.

Fury Air isn't power hungry, it uses only slightly more power than the 480 and in most games is over 15% faster.

If 980 Ti were selling for $350 vs $380 1070 I'd recommend it even though it has less VRAM and is less efficient. Wouldn't you?

Wait

People will try to talk you to death and do the fighting over all sorts of things. These are your best choices.
I'm choosing waiting because my monitor is Freesync. I really honestly think you should get the GTX 1070. I'd rather have fun, than wait indefinitely. I'm waiting though for AMD. Not ready to sink $3k+ into an Nvidia setup yet.

Honestly, unless the games are unplayable, I am leaning towards waiting. Is the QNIX QX2710 a freesync monitor? I know I will be using my TV via Steam Link but none the less, sometimes I will play on my PC.

Got Steam Link setup...Impressive.

Witcher 3 was streaming very smoothly on my 7950. I had it lightly OCed. It's not on ULTRA but it's solid graphics.

I am trying Doom (2016) tomorrow.

Nice price! Enjoy the new card. The 280X in good condition should still sell for a good amount.

I could not resist anymore!

Bought the

https://jet.com/product/ASUS-Dual-f...with-DP-14-H/fbf04dad92cc4935b9430feded6104d7

For $161 - $20 MIR = $141 shipped (also got $20 iBotta so really $121).

Unfortunately, that means that the 7950 Twin Frozr will have to find a new home... hopefully I can get some money for it.

You can easily play most games at 1440p with the RX 480 at 60fps if you use high graphical settings instead of ultra or very high. The difference is not that great for the performance hit it entails in half the titles launched these days. Dishonored 2 is awfully bad - even after patches, and Watch Dogs 2 hardly looks better than GTA V.

Nice, that card should give quite a bit more then the old one.

7950, not 280X. I'm not thrilled that its Asus, as I would prefer MSI Twin Frozr again, so I will be holding this for a bit before I use it.
