Free Team Fortress 2 Weekend this weekend (22-24).
TF2 gets my vote for a GOOD FPS game.
As does the FEAR series.
As does STALKER.
As does HL2.

I liked BF1942 alot and really enjoyed Desert Combat mod for it. Balance was great around the game IMO but BF2 and 2142 are just to unbalanced for my liking. I can't believe the OP didn't like Far Cry though that was a good game. I'd also suggest getting the Orange Box(comes with HL2,Ep1,Ep2,Portal and Team Fortress) if that one purchase doesn't impress you I would find another genre .

there is no UT 2.... there is ut99,ut2003,ut2004, and ut3 for all u console freaks. now ut2...if ur refering to ut2003..which is almost indentical to ut2004.. i just find it amazing that u say it doesnt run smooth gameplay. that game would run smooth at a 5xxx series card. possibly even a 4xxxx series card.

UT3 is laughed at in our community, for being the game that will destroy the UT franchise.

I second Zenoth's list... with the addition of Deus Ex. My Lord, you've missed some good ones. You absolutely HAVE to play the NOLF games, System Shock 2, and Deus Ex. While admittedly, the last two aren't pure FPSs, you won't regret playing them.

Ever game you list in more than 10 years old. It seems like nostaliga is better than whatever your playing.

however if you are looking for some oldies, did you ever play rise of triad?

NOLF and NOLF2 are a must play as is Far Cry -- you really need to give that a better chance to get past where the demo leaves off. Another seriously good game and possibly the most underrated of all time is Chronicals Of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay, superb steely lurking atmosphere with the music to go with it, and 1st rate graphics.

Like someone else said, it sounds like you're done gaming. I enjoyed many of the the (1990s) games you listed as preferences, and even many from before that (I'm old). But I also enjoy Far Cry, Crysis and Doom 3 among the (2000+) games you listed, as well as other modern titles.

Zenoth mentioned Hexen and Hexen II, both are great older FPS games published by ID. Also look into Heretic. My two FPS of choice at the moment are CoD4 and Bioshock though, they look great and are very fun.

All this talk of lag makes me wonder what kind of hardware is being used.

Also, does sound like you jsut can't be bothered with the genre any more, or maybe it's just pc gaming....

My suggestion: get an xbox 360 and game on the sofa for a while. Amazing how nice it can be to play games away from the desk
