Don't get a velociraptor man. If you are concerned about noise I have an i7 920 system with a 4890 (a very hot running card) and it's the loudest thing in my system. It grinds and spins like crazy. After I make my Video Card and RAM upgrades I'm getting an SSD.

with your cpu I would get a 5850 and overclock it. when both the 5870 and 5850 are pushed to their respective limits there is only about 5% different in performance. with your cpu that 5% would never be seen in most cases. in some games like BC 2 you will already be giving up more than 25% even with a stock 5850.

Yeah, I'd get a CPU/ Mobo upgrade long before I got another G-Card with that build. You'd spend more on the G-Card then the value of your entire system.

I don't want to build a new system, if I did anything, I would get a E8400, which I am considering.

Who says I will spend 100 bucks more? I am waiting for price cuts. Nothing is final, I could easily decide to go with the 5850. I never O/C my cards cause I didn't see a huge difference. Never had stability issues with my CPU, GPU was another story.

SSD's are way outta my budget right now...How loud are the 1tb WD blacks?

As for the WD Black drives, I have 2 in my system but I only hear one drive. I'm assuming it's the VRaptor, but I don't really know how loud the Black drives would be running an OS. The only sure way to know you'll get a quiet drive is getting a WD Green drive or a samsung EcoGreen, but since you're looking to get good gaming performance I would shy away from those.

Don't you mean $260 + S&H?... Definitely not the best deal around... in fact, it's one of the WORST I've seen.

GTX470 is about 10% faster than a 5850. GTX470 I have is about 40-45% faster than my 4890 was in benchmarks (on average, excluding DX11 of course). 4890 is about 15% faster than the 4870 is. This means 5850 is going to be about 45-50% faster than a 4870.

Unless you have a 512mb version of the 4870, I'd wait for something much faster than a 5850 to upgrade to. The only reason I got the 470 over the 4890 was because the upgrade was almost free. However, I wouldn't personally spend $200 for just 50%. In addition with HD6000 series just 1-2 months away, I don't see how upgrading at this time is a good idea.
