In addition to the problems posted earlier, my 1991 cavalier also has a fuel line issue, leaking windows, and a few other things (in addition to the brakes and muffler).

Anyway, we are looking to buy new, or slightly used (to take the sticker price down a bit for driving it off the lot). Expecting this car to last a while and we are thinking either coupe, sedan, or hatchback. Don't want a very large 4 door though, preferablly midsize with good gas mileage.

The Mazda 3 Hatchback doesn't look too bad. Definitely trying to stay under 18k new, and slightly used closer to 10-15k max. We also might just get a disposable kia or something that will last 5 years, but thats not super-appealing.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Used Mazda Protege 5 wagon. You can find a year or two old one for under 13k probably.

Good looking. Reliable. Fun to drive.

more $$ , I would assume more maintenance with more shops that arent familiar with them. Usually its not best to jump on a newer technology till it becomes more common.
