I havn't been following the games for a loooong time. I'm looking for a game like Zelda or King's Quest where you roam around and look for clues, you know, adveture games - what's the best game like that out there now? Elder Scrolls?

The first thing that came to my mind was Oblivion.

You didn't look for clues in Zelda...

Action oriented FPS's with RPG elements:
Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines (be sure to grab the community 3.3 unofficial patch, you can purchase this game from direct2drive, it uses the half life 2 engine )
Deus Ex
Oblivion

Pure RPGs
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (i have never played KOTOR 2)
NeverWinter Nights 1 and 2 (do not buy nwn1 without hordes of the underdark, the single player without the expansion sucks)
Baldur's Gate I / II (the two best RPGs ever made)

Hack and Slash RPGS
Diablo I / II (of course)
Titan Quest (never played)

There are some legit adventure games released today, but I don't remember any names. Check gamerankings, maybe.

elder scrolls IV: oblivion is without a doubt what you want. amazing graphics, GIANT gameworld to explore (and one which feels very alive, as there's day/night, the AI lives an actual life, etc), tons of missions to go on, and plenty of action along the way. even though i don't typically like RPG's, this is a very impressive and complete gaming experience that can last 100 hours or more...

I think Kings Quest and Zelda are two different genres. KQ is more a point and click adventure where Zelda is more of an action adventure game.

There are still some games like KQ that come out every once in a while.
I finished playing Secret Files: The Tunguska a few weeks ago. It was pretty good.
Sam and Max have an episodic adventure out now.

Oblivion is a great action FP RPG. But if you want to see the good graphics at a good frame rate you need a pretty good PC.

If you're looking for an adventure game, Dreamcatcher Games puts out a few titles per year that generally range from decent to quite good.

Fable? It's fairly linear, but what little I played of it seemed fun and interesting.
