Looking for a music related app

Hey all

Anyone know of a good application centered around the purpose of allowing you to import your own recorded samples (wav files of whatever) and then arrange them in time sequences for the creation of generating beats and songs? I suppose it would be something midi related.

I know fruity loops does this and I have that, but I have had a lot of trouble importing personaly recorded wavs. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesnt.

Assuming you're talking PC, Adobe Audition Pro is a great program.

But .. there are also some freeware programs:

Audacity
Goldwave
Soundforge (I believe this is freeware, not sure)

I've used Audacity a bit and it's very simple and effective. Goldwave has a bit more features. Never really took the time to get into Soundforge. In the end I used Audition for all the features.

Thanks guys.

To the last guy: I have audacity. Its pretty awesome. But I didnt know you could compose music on it. I mean you could, but it didnt look like it was really ideal for that application.
