I have both the G5 and Mx5000 laser.
If i had my time back i would of gotten the G7 because the cord on the G5 is rather stiff and in my setup it can hinder my mouse movement if i'm not careful.
The Mx5000 laser mouse is what i use most of the time because it's one of the most comfortable mice i've ever used, and due to work, my hand will get sore very fast with normal non-ergonomic mice whereas i can use the Mx5000 for several hours without getting a sore hand. I however had a weird problem with the mouse stop transmitting/receiving randomly, which randomly fixed itself and has worked fine for the past few months. Today however, i would get the

The deciding facts I believe are
1- If you use the mouse for extended periods of time you will want it to be very comfortable/ergonomic. With the less time you use it, the less comfort you can get away with.
2- Wireless is fine, as long as it has a recharger, batteries are a pain I'm not willing to deal with.
3- Buttons, I like my buttons.
4- Reliability. If it stops working when you have a head shot on someone who just tea-bagged you.... you're going to need a replacement mouse and some plaster.
5- Do you really need a fancy mouse? If you just use the computer from time to time for p0rn and the odd game, then get something like Soviet posted.
