I want to trade in my current Maxima SE for a softer quieter ride, I have to travel a lot lately and this has been bugging me. Hard ride and too much noise and also needing major repair 2 3 times a year, costing about 300 - 500 $s...
I am not ready to buy a nice new car yet, I will buy one towards the end of next year, for till then I need something. My budget is $10k, I think I can get 5 - 6k from my current car, add another 10k and I think I can spend around 15k total.

The cars I am considering are (kind of in order of my preference)
Impala
Milan
Taurus/500
Malibu
Camry
Accord

Out of these which would be best value for the money? for the fixed price range, the mileage and year will vastly vary. Also, did I miss any model that might fit my criteria?
Performance, fuel economy, style and all that pretty much do not matter, as I mentioned earlier, I am looking for a softer, quieter ride that is reliable too. And as I would trade it in, in about year and a half, a good resale value would be a plus.. but its not important.

I saw 07 Mercury Montego... ie Ford 500 for around 8k. I never drove one. So I would say trade in/ resale will be low, but at the same time, your trade in would almost cover the whole car.

Otherwise, I have ridden in my friends 2004 Taurus, and it is quite a smooth ride. I wish I had more info on the rest of the cars, but I don't. I drive a 05 crown vic police interceptor, and while it is comfortable it is harder suspension than civilian crown vics.

Also I think someone has been touting the Charger? as being affordable, great on gas, and comfortable.

FWIW my boss has an 06 Impala with the 3.9L engine. He drives it hard (ex cop 😛) and it has pretty high miles on it for the year (150-160k miles, somewhere in there last I checked). He had to have some transmission lines replaced recently due to some leaks and some other stuff but it's been pretty good to him overall.

Its a pretty comfy car, and I envy his heated seats and remote start in the winter!

Consider a Buick, Charger, 500, Chrysler 300, Taurus. I've heard the Malibu is actually a comfortable car. If you don't mind looking like everybody else that went to Hertz.

One of the generic large sedans from the domestic auto makers would be a good choice. They're cheap, generally reliable, comfy, and easy to find.

nerp's list is pretty good, though skip the Malibu. It attempts to emulate a tight "European style" suspension and isn't especially roomy.

About any Chevy Impala from the last few years would be a good choice. I personally don't think the interior is too bad and it is super room & comfy. Even the "sport suspension" on the SS model my Dad had was ridiculously soft.
