Looking for a low end router...

I'm looking for a low end router or possibly a layer 3 switch to setup in a lab environment. I've got 3 separate networks that I'd like to be able to access the internet while staying separate and I'd also like to be able to play around a but with routing (static routes, etc). Do I have to buy a high end router or are there some inexpensive ones out there? Do any of the soho routers offer a CLI? Is there a good place to look for used equipment?

Thanks.

ebay. anything cisco in the 2500s can be had for $150 and up ... workhorses of the internet. I learned on them -- very solid, yet inexpensive, routers.

Set up a PC with a bunch of Ethernet cards and either Linux or BSD. It will have more of a learning curve but a lot more flexibility, plus a lot more opportunity for you to play and learn.

My suggestion too. It can be really frustrating till you get the hang of it, but once it starts clicking, it is hard to beat the configurability of a BSD router.

I'll have to checkout the 2500s. The Linux box idea would make for a fine router, but won't do much for helping learn an IOS.

Thanks guys.

Zebra (do a web search) is a free implementation of several routing protocols for *IX with an IOS-compatible CLI.
