Looking for a low budget beginner HT system

Hi all, for now I think I just need a receiver, sub, mid and two front speakers. I'm not really looking to spend over $500, but that probably won't happen. This will be used to hopefully work with the HTPC I plan to build, so I would like to use the system for normal TV use, movies, PC games and my ps3. Here is what I have looked at but plus give me your inputs. thanks!

You know I was looking at the same thing like you. I am really interested in that 6750 series speakers (yes they are 4 years old design).

I am a bit lost... but reviews from people say it sounds good....

A $500 for a complete home theater system is going to hurt sound quality. It is best to spend more than this for whole entire home theater sound system. A good sound system will make movies, games, and music be a better experience than a crappy one.

I suggest go with Boston Acoustics CS 26 and Boston Acoustics CS 225C. The Polk speakers that you selected are using plastic for the enclosure and they will sound very, very cheap. The Boston Acoustics are made with MDF to provide a more rigid box than plastic. The Polk speakers that you selected have to be set as small and be crossover at 150 Hz. This means you do not have a lot of flexibility to place the subwoofer and the subwoofer will be mainly be in the sound more than other speakers. If the crossover is at 80 Hz when using the Boston Acoustic speakers, the subwoofer will not be heard as much and you have more flexibility where you can place the subwoofer.

An 8 inch woofer for a subwoofer is not big enough for every room. It can handle a small room like a bedroom or a den, but it can handle large rooms like family rooms. It is better to go at least a 12 inch. The best deal for a 12 inch woofer is Epik Legend at its introductory price of $499. It will fast for your music and loud enough for your games and movies.

The AV receiver that you picked is OK, but for all 5 channels it is only going to output 25 watts.
