Actually, we're 100 miles from Knoxville and Nashville, TN....100 miles from Hotlanta, and approximately 100 miles from Birmingham, AL as well. Plenty of rivers, lakes, and bars and occasional live bands that are decent...but not many clubs. It's a great place to raise a family and the quality of life here is pretty good.

I have a 5-8 minute commute to work and it'd be easy for me to move closer to the job if I wanted to.

I'm a LAMP and a NAMP. 😀 (if you must know, that means "Novell"...they started promoting Apache, PHP, mySQL, and Perl support with Netware 6.5)

This is the tough part....low-mid 40s. It's government work and has really good benefits because of the classification of the job. You start out with a lot of vacation, health benefits, dental benefits, training opportunities, tuition reimbursement, flexible scheduling, and a pension.

I'm glad to hear that Unix skills are getting more and more hot on the market.

It's about time! 😀
Yeah, but the shop in general is expected to turn Microsoft over the next 5 years. We're getting pressures to buy microsoft licensing because the president is pushing for a global Exchange implementation....so Linux won't be getting the user accounts when we transition, AD will...

FPOS!

I'm in a place where we will be converting most of the windows boxes into unix....

Might I ask why the president is pushing for a global exchange implementation?

There are so many cheaper alternatives. If you really want exchange functionality, there are even some apps (ie, scalix) which is like exchange but running on linux.

And for email clients connecting to the exchange server, there are email apps like evolution which do it rather well.
