Looking for a Laser Print w/ Scanner for Home Use

Hi guys,

So I've been taking a look around the internet for a good printer that fills the following requirements:

1. Is a laser that can print black and white reasonably fast
2. Has good toner longevity (I print a lot of documents/scholarly articles that can get into the 50+ page range, as I'm currently a student)
3. Has a scanner (fax not important)
4. Is wireless
5. Isn't an ink whore/3rd party cheap toner is available.

Unfortunately, most laser printers don't usually come with a scanner. Also, I'm not sure its actually possible to find a printer with all of the above specifications. However some that I have found (that also looks aesthetically pleasing) are the following:

From what I've seen, the major printer manufacturers (ie HP and Canon) don't seem to make a laser that also has a scanner. Well at least not for below $300. What do you guys think? Should I go with one of the Panasonics above? If anyone has experience with them, how are they when it comes to buying new toner?

Hmm interesting. I'm looking at the M1536dnf because it also has duplex printing. However what is the similar model for Brother, Canon, etc? Research I've done shows that HPs tend to be built with poor to mediocre quality and reliability. Perhaps other competitors offer better solutions? What's your take on the printer scene?

You know it may also be wiser to buy a scanner as a separate item. I've also come across this basic albeit glowingly reviewed HP laser:

And for the price Newegg has it, maybe it would be worth having two separate devices. The more I look around, the more I realize you have to pay quite a bit of money to get an aesthetically pleasing device that is still reliable.

I wonder if our OP has much of an understanding of the monochrome or color laser market.

As monochrome lasers in the all in one class form an extremely competitive marketplace.

As a student with a high printing volume, you will waste far too much time printing with an inkjet. And as a volume printer, you will probably want a toner cartridge with a 4000+ page yield. You can cut your consumable costs in half or so by using third party toner cartridges from either a reliable email outfit, or hopefully a local refiller who will instantly refund defective cartridges. You already mentioned wireless, which cuts down your options some. After that, its a matter of where to buy. Mail order outfits like newegg can offer very good prices, but shipping on a MFC laser is a consideration. And don't ignore big box discounters maybe moving out last years models.

As for me, I want a MFC that has both a flatbed and sheet feed scanner. But sheet feeding with an ADF is a fast and unmitigated convenience. As me for me, I always need faxing the most. In a college town, a fax machine may be always be easily available, but for me its a 12 mile drive one way,

With careful and selective shopping, you should easily be able to find a almost perfect fit for you for under $200.00 shipped.

As for a reliable MFC, I like brother and anything but the cheapest HP's.
