I looked at the Mount & Blade franchise and it's not really my cup of tea, but thanks for the suggestion.

I decided to give a shot at Gothic 3 with the community patch (1.73 I think is the last). Looks a lot like Risen and the CP looks like it put the game back on it's feet.

I'll consider Gothic 3...but should I do the 2nd first?
I already done the first one but nerver played Gothic 2...

If you played and liked Gothic 1 G2 is pretty much a must play.

Same engine, same gameplay with some refinements, new enemies, tons of new NPCs.

The Island in G2 has to be at least 3 times the size of the colony in G1. I still feel like I sometimes find new stuff.

The graphics in G3 are newer, of course, but G2 is a superior, tighter game. Make sure you get the expansion along with it.

As Via said, Gothic 2 it's a must play if you enjoyed G1. Personally, it's my favorite of all three Gothic games. The Gothic Universe Collection will give you all three games in the series which you should be able to get for pretty cheap nowadays. That way you'll also have the Gothic 3 when you are ready to delve into that one.

wow.. thanks for the tip, just picked up gothic 3 game pack and gothic 3 expansion for 3.90 each from gogamer.

0.90 cent is a steal for two worlds.

As I've posted more than a few times -

I just don't have the gaming discipline to finish Gothic 3. Despite best intentions, my games always lose focus and peter out.

I have found the teleport stone to the city within the barrier, but I was way too weak to survive there. I have made it to the Northern lands, but my HD crashed soon after; I was probably too weak to do anything there as well.

In the end, I usually find myself jumping off of cliffs, swimming across lakes, making a beeline for the edge of the map etc.

The kinf of stuff I would do in a MMORPG when I get bored. Except in G3 i ruins my game.

That game is just so damn big.

(thinks for a second)

Time to re-install and try again. Maybe I should take the evil path for once.

What about the first Witcher? Everybody is writing about the 2nd part, but did the OP play the first part? It's a really great game :) Be sure to get the Enhanced Edition.

Isn't Arx Fatalis first person though?

Maybe there was a 3rd person option I missed.

Resident Evil 5 is a blast, it's not an RPG but it is 3rd person and it just flat out rules, which helps. Upgrading the weapons is SUPER fun and you'll need to be smart about which to upgrade. It's good fun and the graphics/animation/story/production values are all as good as you'll find anywhere.

@ mindcycle: After your comment I checked the net for this collection and I finally ordered the Gothic Universe from amazon.ca. It was cheap and new condition and the good thing is that it has Gothic 1, Gothic 2 + Exp and Gothic 3. I downloaded the community patch for Gothic 3 too.

@ Powermoloch: I already finished Fable many years ago and yes it was good!

@ NoSoup4You: I'm considering getting it. I played RE4 on the Wii when it came out and it was great. I saw RE5 on PC for 30CAD last week, worth it at that price...gonna get it soon I guess heheh.

@ Pepsei: I'd like to know more about your thoughts on A Farewell to Dragons. When you feel like it, i'd really like to know your thoughts!

@ Via and Mem: I've done Arx Fatalis when it came out. Good game. Casting system was cool. Looked like Morrowind in the type of view and controls so it was nice.

i like a farewell to dragons, but it needs a little more polishing, bugfix and better translation
the classic rpg element is good and complex. i love the different types of skills available. i do wish perks were not random, because it's best to take 10% exp bonus in the beginning.

i am going to hold off on it and start two worlds since i just got it in the mail yesterday.

I think I saw Two World Epic Edition on amazon.ca for like 10CAD + shipping...but I got Gothic Universe instead.

I'm gonna check A Farewell to Dragons and Drakensang and maybe get one of those 2...

I'm playing Mount & Blade: Warband right now and it's pretty good. Not much eye-candy, but good game mechanics.

Same here. Although it isn't really a classic video-game RPG, more like a true RPG. It is as close to a real RPG I have seen in a game thus far, although it has its flaws.

It is pretty much a sandbox though, so there won't be many rails pushing you down a set path.

Heheh can't wait to try them out!

Yesterday I got pushed by the force and bought Drakensang...

I just read about the classes, skills, talents, etc and it look really cool. Lots of choices and the classes are numerous and nice. It's not 3rd person and it's group based, but I got this about about EU RPGs these days that I thought id give this one a try and for 20$ its cheap enough.

I bought Darkensang for $5 during the D2D anniversay sale. Man, I have so many games from that I have yet to download. I keep on forgetting about them.

In a way I wish I had paid more for Drakensang. It would give me more incentive to dig deeper into that game.

I would recomend this one, I play um all (and I do mean all) and its pretty good, bit easy but still fun, keeps that "i need to do this" feeling going, not so open ended that you easily lose sight of the main goal (oblivion, marrowind, I'm looking at you).

Witcher- good game with one major flaw, one of the hardest battles is at start of game, many people never get past it (damn hell hound!). Easily one of the best of the last 5 years IMHO.

Gothics- all good, 3 is pretty amazing looking.

Two Worlds- Oblivion with worse graphics and harder game play and some UGLY bugs. If you liked Oblivion its not to far a stretch from that. Oblivion is better game, but Two Worlds isnt to bad.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines- also a title that doesnt get enough love as its pretty great game.. when patched! but alot do not classify this as a RPG.

if i had to pick just two i would say WITCHER and Darkensang

Ugh, that fight pissed me off to no end. I ended up just dropping the game a while after that though, after I was in the nice part of the city.
