Looking for a good wav editing program (help!)

I am in search of a good program to edit wav files. Hopefully one that can chop off the last few seconds of dead air after a track or offer a "fade out" feature. There's plenty to choose from on download.com but I thought all you experts out there could point me in the right direction, you know, save a brother some time? Thx for reading this post, have a good one.

After using many, the best one hands-down is GoldWave.

GoldWave is great. If you don't need something that good you could use the wav editor that comes with Nero. But I'd definitely recommend GoldWave.

Sound Forge or Cool Edit.

I've never used Gold Wave but will check it out.
