Looking for a good value 42-46" 720p TV

Getting my mom a new TV for her living room. She is going from a 27" tube TV. So im sure 720P will be more than enough for her.

My only want is one that is actually 1280*720 and not one of the ones that does 1024*768 and scales. Im probably going to hook up some type of HTPC to it, and i dont really wanna mess around with stretched pixels.

I'd prefer to get it at somewhere near me like best buy or PC Richards (no good stores around here), but not a big deal if theres a much better deal online.

I also am planning on mounting it on the wall for her, and the mount needs to be able to turn left.

I was looking at an Insignia 42" plasma 720p from best buy, but im shying away now because its 1024x768.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What kind of viewing environment? I REALLY like the look of plasmas more than LCDs but they tend to have glare issues (even those with anti-glare treatments). If there are bright lights or windows behind the viewing position (or even just a really well lit room), this is something to keep in mind.

It looks like Samsung makes a 43" plasma with your resolution requirements. Walmart sells it for $500. I know nothing about the set (just did a quick google search).

One the 720P plasmas would be the best bet. I have a 42" Panasonic and the picture is really good for such an inexpensive set. MUCH better than any LCD anywhere near that price.

the only thing i worry about is that many cheap 720p plasmas are actually 1024x768, and the pixels are rectangles. I would prefer a screen that is actually 1280x720.

The environment isnt too bright. The glossy screen should be ok.

You can get a wicked deal on a 720p plasma. Do that......

Don't worry about the rectangular pixels, its not a big deal, the crazy good blacks and accurate colors, and no backlight to worry about (not that an LED backlight is something to worry about anymore) more than make up for it.

Does your mom care if the pixels are rectangles? What do you think the phosphors on that 27" tube are? They aren't square I'll tell ya that...

Another vote for a 42" Samsung or Panasonic plasma. Don't get freaked about the 1024x768. It'll all scale nicely.
