My parents just bought a new house and they are looking for a new pool table to place in their game room.

It doesn't have to be brand new or extremely expensive but something decent, they aren't pool sharks but would enjoy an occasional round of pool.
Are there any B&M or online places where I can get some information about purchasing one?

BTW: Their budget is around $1500 or less.

A guy I work with is trying to sell his pool table, but it would be too expensive to ship from Kansas City, methinks.

I'm in the CA Bay Area....Burlingame to be exact...its about 20 miles from downtown SF.

How about manufacturers? Any particular brand which is better than another?

A pool table would be pretty cool to have but WTF are they so expensive for?!?

Don't make me bust out the Dremel and build my own! ;)

Look in your local classifieds. Check the merchandise sections under restaurants, bars, etc. Also look in the Amusements section of your local yellow pages for vendors (they may sell used/refurbished tables as well). If you look hard enough, you should be able to find a very nice table for well under your max of $1500 depending on the size/type of table. Do you want a bar sized table or a full sized one?

As a comparison, my roomate's coworker sold us her bar-sized table for $150. The table was from 1963, but the slate was flawless and had been refelted 4 years ago. The ball return works like a charm, and she threw in 2 racks, 2 sets of balls, a wall rack for cues and a ton of chalk cubes. We also had to move it out of her house ourselves in order to get the super low price, but that was only a matter of 4 guys, a truck rented from Home Depot, and 4 hours of our Sunday afternoon (an hour of which was travel time). If you remove the slate and move it separately from the table, it's really not that hard.

Good luck! :)

I was online browsing through pool table websites and I noticed that there were around 3 sizes to choose from.

If you were to venture into a pool hall what size table would they have, professional?

Which is the typical size for a home pool table?

Best case scenario try to find a pro 8.
Pool halls usually have pro 8's, but depending on space they may just have 8's.

I thought the pros used 9 footers.
