I was thinking about a JBL STUDIO? SERIES ? S120PII if I can find one that is borderline $400.

Now I really need one as I believe my old on is kaput. :( I've tried everything but I can't get even a buzz out of it.

Subway or Quiznos should fit the bill! And you'll have plenty to spare from that $400 ... unless you buy party size.

save up your money and prepare your self for a real subwoofer...

SVS 25-31 PCi <--------- CLICK ME

This will literally make the hair on your legs tingle and the ducts and walls rattle with authority. I have mine in an open basment and it gets loud and shakey. It is very accuarate and hits deep. I have mine custom tuned to 22Hz to get a lower extension. Seriously this is all you will ever need. This is different from the CS version in the previous post. Mine comes with a built in 325 bash amp. I got the lowley one on the totem pole...they just get more powerfull from here. Be prepared...the one I have will set ya back ~$550.00. Go do some research on avsforums.com and you will see the priase SVS gets.

SVS is kinda overated and basically just ripped off HSU, which also makes the big round sub and did it years ago.

PS: I have 4 18" sitting in 12 cubic ft box each and power by 5000 watts and there tuned to 20 hz !!!!!!!!!!!

massive drivers

I dunno about overrated, have ya heard one yet? I was looking @ HSu and I sent a few emails, but no one ever responded. I have heard a few horror stories on their service which made me vary on jumping with them. My first SVS came DOA. So the guys @ SVS hand built me a knew subwoofer and next-dayed it to my house within 24 hours. Talk about quick fast service.

For some reason I thought you said car subwoofers... Never mind ... Buy a HSU or velodyne and be done with it... In that price range they will all sound the same though so go with looks.

they wont sound the same...a velo would be more tighter for music and distort a tad more during movie scenes. a hsu would probably go lower and distort a little less in lower frequencies but may not achieve the tightness a velo would. no speakers ever sound the same...so to make a generalization of that magnitude would prove to be useless...

I could'nt pass a double blind test until we got to the ~2000 range... But that's just me. Good for you.

well...what makes a ~2000 range subwoofer better from a ~500 dollar subwoofer then? dont they all just sound the same then, ;)

The raw drivers I use in my subwoofers are the same that wilson audio uses and they sell there double 18 sub for $18,500, granted the wood work is furniture quality but the sound is about the same.

In high end audio the price is always super inflated !!!!!!!!!!

Check for open box specials at Circuit City. I got a Velodyne CT-120 there for ~$300 w/a 3-yr full-replacement warranty. :p
