looking for a good scanner

I would suggest the canon canoscan N670U

you can order them online for under 100 bucks..or i've seen them at walmart for about 85

pretty good specs and good reviews out there

i agree, great scanner

I would not buy the Canon. Canon scanners are CMOS scanner. I greatly prefer a CCD scanner. The quality is simply higher but the cost is also higher. You get wht you pay for!
Look at Epson scanners. Specifically, the 1250 as an entry level. The 1650 if you also plan on film scanning.
I am not saying Canon is bad, just do your research. Just like printers DPI is not everything!
Cheers

i'd say canon is would be a very good choice i have a 650u and love it. but i've also heard great things of the epsons as well

I have the Canon 1220u. I love it... I also have a Canon Ixus V, and together they're great. no problems with drivers, never a problem with the scanner... so if the 650u is going to be half as good for half the price, go for it!
Canon make great gear (I don't like there printers, but I am yet to try the printers with the individual ink wells for each colour... so the jury is still out on that) so I recommend looking into there stuff.

What are you going to be scanning? This is important to what sort of scanner you need.... remember that what you need is far more important than what you want. 😉
