Newsfeed has great retention rate and superb speed according to many people that i have talked to. But I personally use Giganews. It is faster for me here @ TX 🙂
also have the same question, damned pacbell switched to compuserve news which has nothing.. grr.
so what are your experiences with these servers? is it possible to get anything decent for 5bux a month? or must it be atleast 10? retention? selection? binaries?

I believe one of the links I pasted had a plan for around $5 per month. 100MB downloads/day. They will all also say they have great retention and a great selection of newsgroups and very little dropped or missing posts. Do a search on http://groups.google.com for the names of these places and see what people are saying about them.
airnews.net is good if you download a lot. unlimited MB download.
giganews.com has limited capacities but is fast.
easynews.com is good if you want HTML based usage as well.
deja.com is great for TEXT ONLY USAGE.
