Looking for a good modular PSU rated at 800+W

Well I would have suggested the Antec Truepower New 750W. It is rated at 50C. Or waiting for the Corsair HX850.

I think entropy went with the TX850 though

Yeah i got the 850tx... its ok i wont have too many cables in there anyway modular isnt absolutely necessary hopefully this will do fine 🙂

thanks guys

Yeah that is a good choice for a decent price. You shouldn't have any issues with that PSU, and if you do the 5 yr warranty will be handy to have!!

I don't mean to thread-jack but since OP's question has been answered and I felt it's not appropriate to make a thread to ask this question so here it is: Does Corsair own some kind of patent on their 'flat' modular cables?

I remember Ultra used to make its PSUs with similar cables ('Flex-X'?) but I can't seem to find any other brand that sells modular PSUs with the like cables other than Corsair. If that's the case, I have to say it's another sad example of patent system.

Don't get me wrong - I've purchase many Corsair PSUs for the past couple years and been very satisfied with them. But sometimes there are other brands' PSUs that'd meet my needs yet cost a lot less, and I wish they had flat cables as well. (Helps alot with cable management)

I think Ultra had the patent on the flat cables, IIRC. Not sure, but that is how I remember it. It could be the other way around, but I don't know for sure.

Well, I'm not looking to buy one at the moment. I am just curious.

So it looks like Ultra owned the patent, and Corsair bought the patent from Ultra?

I know the patent and Intellectual Property laws are messed up and still being developed, but this is a bit too much, IMO. Once again I have nothing against Corsair and obviously Corsair made a smart decision when it purchased the patent from Ultra. Even without 'flat' cables Corsair makes some of the best PSUs in the market and I'd recommend its PSUs without a hesitation.

But isn't it ridiculous that you 'own' the right to 'flatten' cables but no one else does, because you first started doing it? Jebus.. Well at least there hasn't been a sign of exclusivity on 'modular' cables. I wonder if anyone owns that patent as well?

Ultra's were called Flexforce. I doubt Corsair bought the patent from Ultra, I am not even sure if they bought license rights...I am not even sure if there is a patent 😉

If there is no patent/license issue preventing other manufacturers from offering flat cables, then I'd have to say that Corsair deserve the premium it charges for its PSUs. (Though it's kinda strange that I haven't seen any other PSU with flat cables yet.)
