Was that a refurb? Still available? That sounds like a deal...

It is brand new. It came in the retail box/had CDs/cables etc, i saw no prior wear on it or anything. Its definitely a deal if you ask me, if you plan to overclock i would probably avoid it though - it doesnt have 2 of the additional power connectors, just 1, and it also does not come with a backplate [the card is very solidly built so i see no issue there]. You could OC some im sure but you wont hit the same speeds that the other 1070s have that have 2x power connectors.

The card is also really long, some people in the reviews could not fit it in their tower without modifications, my friend has a Full Tower case though so it was NP. I would look for 12 inches of clearance. If i did not have a 970GTX i would probably get this card myself...it was just luck that i stumbled upon it, i was looking at the MSI and ASUS cards initially but Amazon Warehouse was nailing me with some heavy taxes and my friend is on a budget so i kept looking.

Edit, i also did a quick benchmark of this card vs my 970 and it was atleast 30% faster, exactly as a 1070 should be vs a 970. With Ebay, even if its Newegg selling it there...I like to be sure of what i bought. Its verified good.

Im just estimating here. I used the Uingine Heaven Benchmark, and at the exact same settings the card was 30-40% faster [1080 and everything set to medium, nothing fancy]. With everything maxed out to ultra settings it was 200% faster. So yes its way faster. 30% is atleast, at best it was 200%.

Edit, he has a i5 2500 @4ghz, 16GB ram [i dont know the speed] and a 500gb SSD drive.

Yeah, I had my eye on an XFX 4GB RX 480 card, from Newegg on ebay, for $159.99. I thought that was a deal too. Sadly, that too is gone.

Looking at possibly purchasing some more GPUs, either mid-month, or more at the beginning of April. Not a lot of money. Maybe $200, if I can squeeze that. Maybe less than that.

1) Is an RX 480 4GB overkill for a Core2Quad rig? (No or very little OC, under 3Ghz CPU core clock.)
2) Is an RX 480 4GB overkill for a G4560 rig? (No OC, 3.5Ghz Kaby Lake dual-core with HT.)
3) Will the AMD RX-series cards be getting a refresh soon, and will the existing RX 460/470/480 be getting a fire-sale pricing, in the next month or two? They seem to be slowly sliding down in price alread4gb y, I see an RX 480 4GB "new" on Newegg's ebay site for $159.99 FS. If I had the money right now, one would be en-route.
Not sure I see the point of the 4gb 480. For a 4gb card, I would just go for a 470.

I ordered a 4GB Sapphire RX 470 Nitro card, the other day, for $169 shipped, off of Newegg on ebay. I hope that I didn't make a mistake, if there's a refresh right around the corner. TBH, I'm not really sure how much a refresh could improve. Maybe +100Mhz clocks or something? They are constrained by both process and architecture, and neither of them is going to be new for the refresh, only slightly "tweaked". So I don't think that I'm losing out much.

Then again, I waited to buy my 7950 cards, until they were being fire-saled, brand new, for $130. I didn't pay $500 upon initial release. Granted, I didn't get as many years out of them, but I didn't invest all that much in them.

So, buying an RX 470 4GB card on the "trailing edge", for not a huge, but still significant amount of money.

Just curious, an RX 470 IS faster than a 7950 3GB (800/1000), isn't it?

Yes, it is faster. Not hugely faster, but I'm sure you'll notice the difference. Plus, the RX 470 supports DX12, while the old 7950 only supported up to DX 11.2.

It'll use a lot less power than the 7950, too.

No matter the power delivery, Nvidia Pascal all overclock nearly identically: 2.0-2.1 GHz. See: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1070_Quick_Silver_OC/32.html

Since partner boards can't give extra overclocking, I think the reference board is best, as it is most efficient. The partner boards see an increase in power consumption without a corresponding increase in performance: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1070_Quick_Silver_OC/30.html

Is this a decent deal? MSI Armor OC RX 480 8GB, for $219.99 FS, Newegg on ebay.

I really wanted to keep the price under $200.

Is there a benefit for the 8GB of VRAM over 4GB? At least, if I were considering an upgrade in 3 years anyways, for a more reasonable 4K card?

That will do although Polaris doesn't support VP9 hardware decode without a driver update and apparently it hasn't happened 9 months later:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5xzbgb/polaris_gpu_have_no_vp9_hardware_decode/

If you want an all rounder card (and I suspect you do) you want a 1060 6GB as minimum.

This seems to be the best deal at the moment:
Sapphire Nitro RX 480 4GB
180$ after MIR and shipping. Plus you can sell that DOOM code.

The difference between 4GB and 8GB is game-dependent, although minor as long as you stay at 1080p.

Hurry up before it's OOS again.:D
