I'm trying to teach myself dreamweaver, but I can't stand reading tutorials off of the computer screen. I tend to enjoy reading training books, and I noticed there were a few out there for Dreamweaver MX. Any suggestions on which one I should buy?

I have some programming experience, but it's mostly all C++ and very little perl. I'd like to develop a page using MySQL or php, but I'm basically a beginner when it comes to web design.

Thanks in advance.

I find the PeachPit Press books excellent. I have heard very good feed back from others on them as well.

Skip the book. Dreamweaver is so easy to pick up that you'll kick yourself later for spending the money on a book. Just play around with it. :)

If you want to learn PHP and MySQL, get a book specific for that. I do a lot of PHP/MySQL programming and mostly use vi in Linux. O'Reilly has good PHP and MySQL books.

Yeah I have a bunch of those "in a nutshell" books from O'Reilly. they helped me get through JAVA class back in college. I noticed that a lot of the dreamweaver books seemed like they were geared towards people who didn't know how to use basic windows programs, and that's why I'd like to avoid buying one that is going to devote half of the book to describing the interface.

Still, there are only specific things I'd like to do. I'm not looking to learn a bunch of programming languages, I just want to be able to throw a decent page together.

That's why I suggest avoiding a Dreamweaver book. It's for noobs.. ;)

I think Macromedia includes fairly decent documentation in the Help section of their software. There are also plenty of developer forums on the internet you could browse for tips and such.

If you want to learn how to do a decent web site, you may want to look for books on design concepts and such. That way you will know what you want to do before you start trying to do it.
