Out of the Park Baseball (OOTP) v. 4.0 may be what you're looking for. It's relatively inexpensive ? a $30 download ? well supported, with an active fan base. It is so designed that you can import teams from a free database, for example the 1968 St. Louis Cardinals, and place them in a league set up the way you want. It is extremely customizible and has every sort of statistic you'd want to track (batting versus left and right-handed pitching, for example). I have played other stat-based games, Baseball for Windows for one, but you had to purchase the game, the schedule creator, the stat manager, and season disks. With OOTP 4.0 everything is included in the base price. Season replays are quick, 10 to 15 minutes. The game also simulates, at your choice, team finances, minor league play, coaching and development of players, so-called career play, where you can play several seasons in a row and see how your baseball organization fares. All-in-all it is quite an accomplishment if you don't care about arcade play and just want to revel in the pure statistics of the game.
