Desired features:
[*]Inexpensive.
[*]Webserver based
[*].NET based is a strong preference
[*]Should be able to search within documents (i.e. I search for "Anandtech" and it gives me a list of all docs that contain that word) [edit: specific document types that we'd like to search within are PDFs and Microsoft Office docs - word, excel, powerpoint mostly]
[*]Should be able to store searchable metadata about documents (i.e. user enters keywords or a description of the document)
[*]This will be used to store inellectual property, so managing licensing information within the DMS would be good

Ideas?

edit: yes I'm aware that Windows XP's search feature can do just about all of that... suggest something else. :)

I dont use it but it sounds neat :D

Thanks, I'll look into that.

The reason I specified .NET is because my boss just recently talked his bosses into switching to .NET for our external site, so it would make him look bad if we're recommending PHP stuff for the internal site. There's nothing intrinsic to .NET that requires us to use it for this.

Sharepoint is like $5000 + $70/CAL. Just a tad above our budget. ;)
