Cliffs:
We get behind on deadlines
We get (more meetings) to shuffle around assignments
Meetings do nothing since workload remains the same
Should Ns1 sit there and take it or stick his neck out and make a point?

Full Post:
So any given quarter, we have about 40-60 projects that we need to complete. Each project is assigned a priority 1-10 and each have their own corresponding deadlines.

It is not uncommon for us to be behind on the deadlines.

Currently we report to management our status in 2 different ways: 1 is a master excel file in which we update as we complete various assignments. 2 is a status report given every Friday to management, that says what we did, what we need to do, and when we expect to complete it.

So, when we are backed up, we have "additional" meetings. The point of these "meetings" is to shuffle around our various assignments and decide which assignments we need to complete first, with each meeting lasting about 15 minutes.

Now, my entire team feels that these meetings are a fucking waste. It is what it is; we're behind, we know we gotta get that shit done, and we are trying to get shit done as fast as we can. The gripe is that these meetings do nothing but shuffle around work that we already behind on, or repeat things that have already been said via status reports. What we need is time to finish said projects, and having more meetings is not the way to do that.

So, should I bring it up, or is there some point that I'm missing?

Well if everyone you work with is on the same page as you (knows what everyone else is working on) then it might be worthwhile to bring up. Does work actually get distributed during those meetings?

if the people in charge are "hip", then go for it. if theyre management drones you may just find it frustrating.

No, it's a 1on1 meeting. We just shuffle what we are supposed to work on RIGHT NOW, which does nothing when everything is behind (by default then we work according to priority)

I never knew there was such a thing as a 15 minute meeting.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I've just been told to just stop that do this instead. & once it was three times in the same morning.

meh, brought it up, it was a non issue.

Purpose is not necessarily to get shit done faster, but to keep open lines of communication.

I'm gonna be proactive about it and tell them more often what I'm doing/when it's gonna be done and stop having said meetings.

i stuck my neck out repeatedly at my last job, and I had much success. Cons: people look to you as a leader and they tend to rely on your more often, and it lets other people get lazy. Pros: you are likely to keep your job or advance yourself.

Just don't say anything unless you are 100% sure of the results

If a 15 minute meeting destroys your productivity, maybe you should stay 15 minutes later before going home to make up for it?

Then why are you complaining if you can walk out the door at 5 p.m. and not think about it? It would be one thing if you were pulling all nighters, trying to get work done and the company meetings are the cause.

Well, I saw your post before you edited it. I can understand your frustration. It doesn't sound like there's much you can do other than suggest a different approach and hope they'll schedule a meeting to talk about it. :)
