I'm looking for a convertable around $40,000, a little more or less it ok. So far I got the Mercedes SLK 280
Audi A4 Convertable
Porsche Boxster"probobly not though"
Any other suggestions?
Edit: I would prefer a 4 seater.

Yeah, I like these two cars, the engines are a little extreme considering recent gas prices, I'd prefer the M3 over the S4 though.

An M3 is a more powerful 3 series right, a lot more powerful, with a few external touchups right?
Edit: how much can I get a used one for? Close to $40K?

Yep. A used M3 roadster is what i would pick. The most recent M3 is 333HP straight 6. I'm not sure what the specs of the regular 3 series are off the top of my head.

You're spending 40k on a convertable and gas prices are an issue?

New one would be closer to 60. $40k would get you a 2003 M3 or a 2004 S4.

I would have to say a corvette for sure. It is not a four-seater, but you do not buy a convertible for a family car anyway.

Or what ZV said, those Mustang GT's look nice.

It's not a family car, I'm single and I carry friends around from time to time, not extremely important, but a consideration when buying a car.

Definitely look at the new Mustang then. The back seats can hold an actual human if necessary, but it's still a fun car and not too mature. :) I've been absolutely amazed at how well put together mine is. At the very least, test drive one and see how you like it.

I think I'll take a look at the Mustang, does anyone know on a first hand experiance how the Porsche Boxster handles, I heard it's reputed to be one of the best handling cars on the road.

mustang GT, 350Z, SLK320, boxter, S2000, CLK cab, miata, 3-series cab, 9-3 cab, MR-S, soltice/sky, eclipse spyder... and my fav, the lotus elise.

the boxter is light, nimble, and is pretty powerful for a small car.

sex

also depends on what you'll use the car for. if you'll use it mostly to commute, the mustang, 350, SLk, CLK, miata, 3-series, 9-3, and eclipse will be fine.

I've only gotten a chance to drive a 911, but if it's anything like it expect it to be very nimble and tons of fun to drive.

I heard from a review that if you're going to test drive a boxster, you're going to have to buy it because you can't go back to any other car, the fact that it's a mid engine car makes it handle better than the 911, or at least easier to drive.

I've never driven a Boxster, but from my experiences with my 914, I can imagine that the review is correct. There is nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, that feels like a Porsche.
