Specifically, I need either (A) separate 58mm and 52mm CP filters, *or* (B) a 58mm CP filter and a 52mm --> 58mm step-up ring so that I can use the same filter on both lenses: a Pentax 18-55 kit lens, and a Pentax DA 55-300mm lens.

I'm not quite sure what to get though: I've seen a bunch of different brands, and prices anywhere from $20 or $25 up to $100+. Hoya and / or B+W seem to be the two 'big' brand recommendations from the searching I've done so far, and I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions. What (if any) do you use?

Thanks!

Nathan

I have both Hoya and B+W circular polarizers - also a Canon CP. All work well. I like your idea to the step up ring to use the 58mm CP.

I bought a cheap $20 67mm CPL off ebay. Don't do that. It works, but leaves a red or green tint, depending on where the polarizer is rotated. I'd suggest buying a single high-quality, large CPL (B+W, top Hoya models, etc) - the largest lens filter diameter that you expect and get adapters for the rest. I don't use CPL's very often since they knock down the available light, so swapping the filter in and out is worth the hassle for me. My other alternative is to get a Cokin system with a CPL filter. Of course, if you can afford more high-quality CPLs, go for it. I can't even afford the 77mm right now :-(
