Looking for a cheap, yet worthwhile case

Well I am in the process of upgrading my pc's exterior and was looking for a nice case for under $60 shipped. I have been looking all around and the cases that interest me are always about twice as much as I am able to afford. I would like to get the following in a case:

1)a window (too lazy and poor to put in my own)
2)aluminum
3)LED fan
4)toolless would be nice but not necessary

I know this is asking much for a $60 case but I was wondering if you guys could help me locate such a case.

So far I have found the Logisys Phantom to be the closest thing to what I listed above but it's just barely out of my price range shipped.

Could you guys help me out?

are you looking for a case with a power supply, or without one? The Chenming midtowers are nice and some of the Aspire turbo cases come with power supplies all under 60 bucks. Or you can purchase a psu separately to suit your system.

antec is one of best cases made. i have an aspire and it works pretty good. except for the fact the blue led light for the temp. monitor went out.

You're not going to get a decent aluminum case anywhere in that price range - the metal would be too flimsy. Two of the best inexpensive cases are the Evercase 42x2 series and the Compucase 6A19 series. I think you can get a side door with a window direct from evercase as well as other important accessories (hard drive vibe dampers, etc.). The Compucase is the same as the Antek SLK3700AMB except for the front bezels. So you shouldn't have to hard a time coming up with a window door if you really need one.
. The Silverstone Berserker is also excellent, but comes w/o a PSU.

Sorry, but one doesn't get a really nice case w/ 550W PSU for no $33. - A decent 550W PSU alone costs 3x that... Occasionally you can come up with a really HOT deal in a case on dumpinggoods.com but their rep is not good.

I forgot to mention that, yeh a 350 or 480w PSU would be a real nice advantage. It doesn't need to be aluminum but that would definitely be a plus, just would like a nice "gaming case".

I just checked out that green xpider and it's basically perfect but the only problem is that their shipping is quite a lot and it winds up like 15$ over my budget and although that may not be a lot, I will not be able to get anymore money for a while. Would there be a possibility that if I emailed them or something that they would agree to ship via something cheaper like usps?

You can try. I don't think USPS would save you that much, maybe 2 or 3 dollars. Are you sure UPS ground is $15 over your budget? To Chicago, it's $19.62 in freight.

Yep.

Item Name SubTotal
1 SPECIALS: Green Xpider (w/420W power supply) 49.95
Subtotal: 49.95

Shipping Options
Service Business Days Cost
UPS Ground N/A 23.10*

Not exactly 15$, more like 13 and some odd cents but close enough. Are they just nuts on the shipping? I read that this case only weighs around 13-15lbs.

Yeh I know :(
Well thanks for your support at least. I hope they'll be considerate enough to take my email into consideration and be willing to work some sort of deal out with me. I mean I'm willing to pay full price for the case, I just don't have the money nor the willingness to pay for shipping when it costs half the price of the case.

There is a Rosewill case on Newegg - $57. shipped in the "daily deals" - probably good for only another hour or so. Has a 5-star rating over a fairly large no. of buyers.

Your best bet maybe to run some queries at NewEgg to get ideas. They have some pretty good filters at that site that make searches easy. You don't have to buy from them but it should give you an idea of what may work. You can then post back and ask for opinions on the cases you choose - which is easier for people to comment on instead of commenting on ALL cases.

As far as shipping goes you just have to live with it. It's not always about the weight but about the size. I had a UPS guy explain it to me once. Remember that this package has to be put on a plane or a truck. When it comes to shipping it's more about space than weight in many cases. The more they can put on the plane or truck the better for the shipper. Each truck costs the shipper money. If you take up a large amount of that truck with your package then you have to compensate them for it. If you ship a 10 foot by 10 foot box full of air it will cost you a ton of money because it's probably taking up a ton of room on the truck.

Well I've finally got fed up with not having my system up and running so I went ahead and borrowed the extra $ and purchased that Chenming Xpider case. I'm really happy with my purchase, at first I was weary about purchasing it but then I read that the antech, chenming, chenbro, etc. cases are all made by the same company. I would like to thank fibes for helping me out. Thanks for the heads up on the great deal.

Your welcome hazard666! I also purchased a new case today. I got one similar to yours, except it's not aluminum and does not have a power supply. This case is huge.

Chieftec Dragon

Have fun! :D

Just out of curiousity, why'd you go with the Dragon? They're basically the same as the xpider but every site that I see selling them sells them for a bit more than the xpiders. Unless you don't like green, then I could understand.:p

I'm also on a budget and wanted to get the highet quality for the least amount of money. I did some research and came upon the Chenming Xpider from coolerguys.com. I was seriously considering buying it online, when I came across an ad from TigerDirect.com last night. They had a Chieftec case that I wanted and I could pick it up at their warehouse in Naperville,IL. By doing this, I wouldn't have to pay for shipping costs. I would have prefered the Xpider (because of the case was aluminum and the green color), but because I didn't have to pay for shipping, I had to limit my choices. I ended up with a yellow case(not my first choice color, but the green case was more money) and steel contruction with a plexiglass window.

Overall the fit and finish looks excellent. Like I said earlier, this case is huge(Xpider and Dragon are the same dimensions). Looks like it's going to provide good air flow and their seems to be a lot of room to work inside the case, which is good, since my Antec Lanboy was so cramped. Now all I need to complete my budget gamer is the motherboard, memory, CPU, hard drive and video card.

Have fun with your new case! :D

I have this case. Planning on modding it a bit, so I haven't put anything in it yet. But, I CAN tell you this, the paintjob NICE. Made of steel. Pretty sturdy ah heck. Comes with a blue LED fan and CCFL if you're into that sorta thing. 400 Watt PSU. The insides are pretty average, but I've worked with enough cheap cases with below-average interiors to appreciate that. No manual; can't really imagine why you'd need one, though.
