looking for a cheap hdmi to dvi adapter cable

hmm... it says dual link is not supported, but it has all the pins... does that mean a 30" lcd would not work with it?

i need a cable... i don't want something rigid and that large plugged in directly to my laptop, too much leverage and it will get bumped and break... and just to clarify, the laptop has hdmi and no dvi... i'm just trying to be flexible with as few cables as possible, don't want to carry around more than i have to

something else just crossed my mind... would I be able to use a 30" 2560 x 1600 lcd on my laptop since I only have hdmi?

no, hdmi is single link only.

edit: actually according to wikipedia HDMI 1.3 and up supports a max res of 2560×1600p75. so I guess it will work even though it's only single link.

Thats only if his laptop is outputting that resolution and is using 1.3 also

It wont matter. HDMI = Single Link DVI as far as the standard data rates go which is where the 2 standards intersect.

The 1.3 version of HDMI that supports 2560x1600 would need to connect to a monitor that supports double-rate HDMI aka HDMI1.3 to take advantage of this resolution over HDMI. No DVI port that I am aware of existing has HDMI 1.3 data rates implemented, since dual-link is already the defacto standard there.

In your case you need Dual-Link DVI which is different from double-rate HDMI (1.3), so you are going to be limited to 1920x1200 from the HDMI->DVI adapter.

I am not saying that there is a 0% possibility of your DVI port supporting HDMI1.3 data rates, just that the chances are slim, and if it doesn't work that is the culprit. Still it might be worth buying the cable/adapter from monoprice just for 1920x1200.
