hey all i know i'll probably get a lot of different answers but am looking for a car, will probably be used, with the following:

~$15k
25mpg city
midsize sedan
performance doesn't matter too much

so far i'm thinking 2007 sonata or fusion. any other ideas? thanks

$15k and 25mpg is most likely a econ box. Any brand to avoid?

any features you want to have above the rest? assuming powering locks and windows are already on the car.

I guess i would say throw out the cars styling you DO LIKE regardless of cost and we can go from there.

I doubt you'll find a mid size sedan that does 25mpg in stop/go traffic. Unless you can find a Altima/Camry Hybrid for $15k.

The two cars you listed get 21mpg and 20mpg respectively.

Although with careful driving I'd say it's possible to get 25mpg in the city.

2008 Fusion or 2008 Mazda 6 V4. Also 2006-2007 Honda Accords with low miles (around 30k) will also be available within this price range.

if you spend 1.5K more, you can get a new mazda 6. You'd get lower financing and you can deduct (or whatever they call it) taxes on the car on your next tax return.

You could also go smaller and get a new corolla or civic in the high 14's.

Well, according the EPA, only cars in 2007 listed as "family cars" that get >25 city under the new standards are: Prius, Altima Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, and Elantra (family size is questionable). If you add "small cars" such as Civic, Sentra, Corolla, etc. the list grows by another 20 or so.

Now, I think there are at least a dozen more vehicles that will beat 25MPG handily if you drive smart. I've said it before, but I haven't averaged less than 25MPG on a tank of gas in my '00 Maxima in at least 4 years (when I started driving for fuel economy). It doesn't mean you have to drive like a grandma, you just have to be smart - don't accelerate to red lights, let off the accelerator when going downhill, etc. My car is rated at 18/26/20 under the new system.

Yeah, but you stole your car. Hell, I'm surprised you weren't arrested.
