Looking for a better motherboard for my e6400.

Long story short, I havent overclocked this thing for almost a year and I am trying to get my computer back up to par.
Here is what I currently have:

E6400 with a big zalman cooler on it
ga-965p-ds3 (I got it right around the time it came out)
74 gig raptor and 320 gig 7200.10
8800gt oc (evga)
2 x 2gig (Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB(2 x 2GB) 4-4-4-12 DDR2 800

I want to get a new motherboard to utilize this ram/cpu since in my mobo's bios I cant change the memory down to 4-4-4-12 and overlocking has been less than desirable due to lack of options in the bios.
If I am wasting my time with this CPU please let me know, I figured I can get a new motherboard to crank what I have to get better performance.

Thanks for any thoughts on my system.

Depends on what features you want. If you want more high end options like dual gigabit LAN controllers and PCIe 2.0, then take a look at the GA-EX38-DS4.
If PCIe 2.0 is not important and you want to spend less than $200 then most of Abit, Gigabyte, Asus, and MSI P35 boards are very popular.

Would i see much if any performance difference between my mobo which was made in 2006 and say the abit ip35?

Some but don't expect miracles. Look back at all the original reviews of the P35 chipset when it launched. Many of those directly compare the P35 to the P965.

Its been a year since I used this mobo and forgot about this. I just got it testing at 3.27 and breezing through 3dmark and orthos. Damn I love this forum, found an old post that helped with settings getting it higher and higher.
