Looking for a 7 Passenger SUV. Sequoia or Montero?

Hi, I am looking to get a truck. I am pretty much debating on either a Toyota Sequoia or Mitsubishi Montero. Just looking to get a 4x2 as I don't tow anything or go off road, no need for 4x4. I just need a truck to drive my family around. NO VANS PLEASE!!!
Anyone have any experience with either one of these trucks that want to share? I probably go for the 2001 model, because the truck is basically the same as 2002 and its about $3000-$4000 cheaper.

Ive never been in a Montero but ive got two friends with Sequoias... big ass SUV man. Sits more than 7 plus a little cargo room. I think its also a lot more expensive than the Montero. Very comfortable though... id go with Toyota just because im a Toyota freak... but i have little knowledge of Monteros but they do look nice.

Another vote for the Sequoia. A truly excellent large SUV. Somewhat expensive though, but that is the case for many Toyotas.

Any reason in particular you aren't looking at a year old used, Suburban or Yukon? You could probably nab them for nearly 10k cheaper than a brand new Sequoia. Yes, I know it's a domestic, but it's on a rock solid platform.

Thanks for everyones advice. I just call a few dealers and apparently the one that I did research on for the Sequoia 4x2 SR5 for about $30, 000 is not available at all. One salesmen even told me that he had never seen any Sequoia SR5 4x2 at all. The next one up is the SR5 4x4 and thats like $38,000! Oh well... back to the drawing board. Now I might have to go back to like CR-V or Odessey or even a Sienna.

I've check carsdirect.com, autobytel.com, kbb.com, edmunds and carprices.com they all show the sr5 4x2 is available and when I call the dealership, they just laugh at me.

I'm telling you, look one year used. SUV resale in in the crappers right now(minus the honda and toyota tax). You can pick up used Yukons, Expeditions, Pathfinders, ect for a SONG right now. Slap another $600 down on it and you've got a bumper to bumper warranty that will last for 5 years, 50,000 miles backed by the manufacturer.

That's crap. Both my friends have 2x4 SR5s... those dealers are retarded and they do that a lot over here. Toyota of Glendale is as stupidest as you could ever get... my friend and i went in to ask about a manual transmission Solara... we go in there and the first person that comes up to us has to pull out some sort of guidebook just to find out what the hell a Solara looks like. So we go into the showroom to talk to some more people... and two of them tell us theyve never seen a manual Solara ever... uhhh ok. One of their salesmen walk in and they ask him to if he has seen a manual Solara before, just to prove to us that there is rarely one. guess what he said? He says yeah there is... duh. Uhhh ok. To make a long story short, we left that place and went to Longo Toyota...about an hour drive... and guess what... there they are... 5-speed Solaras. Don't listen to idiots like those. You need to look some more. Good luck.

Sequoia actually sits 8

I love my Suzuki XL-7. I got 5 year 0% interest and paid under MSRP in Nov 01.
The Limited is loaded with leather seat, sun roof, roof-rack, tinted window, running board, spolier) for less than $23,000 for 4X2.
Suzuki does not charge everything extra as Toyota. It has A/C Heat for the middle and 3rd row. Comes with daytime driving light, micro-filter system for the Spring season.

Very good Small SUV that sits 7. (the third row is actually quite small, for small kids or thin/short adult is not a problem)

Ummm is there a 3rd choice? From personal experience the 4.7 in the Toyo's is a POS, it's toyo's worst engine I have ever seen driven and witnessed blow smoke at 45K miles

Montero I can't say I've had bad experience but the one I drove was at 70K miles and didn't smoke like the POS 4.7

I just bought a Buick Rendevous last week. With the optional 3rd row seat it's also a 7 passenger SUV. I did alot of research and for the price/features I found it to be the best value.

I've driven the Montero. I think it's a POS. It has a lot of features, but features don't make a vehicle good.

Well as far as choices goes...I am looking for at least a 7 passenger SUV. 2 of my friends go the 2001 Landcruiser and they both paid $50,000+ for it. (Too much outta my budget) Max I can probably borrow and spend are low $30,000. (Hope I don't get lay off or fired, cuz I am borrowing against my retirement plan. ) If anyone have any suggestions, let me know.

Why do you need a seven passenger SUV?

If you're borrowing your retirement savings (and you're thinking you could be laid-off), you really should be reconsidering your options IMHO.

I'd be looking at something used, a van, or simply holding off (you're managing somehow now, right?) until I had a bigger down payment saved. You really shouldn't borrow against a 401K, etc., except in an emergency. Wanting to buy a $40,000 vehicle is not an emergency.

I had to drive my in-law's new GMC Yukon XL to LAX last saturday night. I'm no fan of SUV's, but that was one nice ride. I had Alicia Keys turned up the whole way and the stereo sounded great. It had good visibility and was incredibly easy to drive considering what a wide monster it is (even while driving in traffic around LAX). It did 85 with no effort whatsoever... I had to keep my eye on the speedometer to keep from going 90!.

You may want to at least check that bad boy out.
