Looking for a 20GB (or more) mp3 player, but smallest size possible...

Need a good, sizeable mp3 player (30GB or 40GB is what I'd like most), am going to be traveling alot so I want something small, palm-sized like the Creative Zen Micro, which my friend let me use for a week and which sounded really great, except they don't make them bigger than 6 GB. I also sampled my co-worker's 40GB iPOD and while certainly tolerable I just couldn't ignore how much better the Zen Micro sounded.

No offense to iPOD users, it is probably the best interface out there.

Someone also recommended the Rio Karma but have no idea how big that is. I had a 30GB Zen Xtra which also sounded great but was too bulky, pants had to have pretty big pockets to squeeze it in.

Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks🙂

The Rio Karma would be a great choice if you're an audiophile, but it's quite fat (1.1") and has been discontinued by Rio. That said, they can be found online for very cheap.

Right now, the smallest 20GB players are probably the Sony NW-HD3 and Archos Gmini XS200. Both are pretty tiny. The Creative Zen Touch is bigger than either, but still reasonably sized and comes in a 40GB version as well as a 20GB one.

Dude something must have been wrong with the 40gb ipod. ipods are just better. maybe not for the size but the quality is the best.

While I know you said you don't want an iPod, you should consider what headphones you were using when you listened to your friend's. If you are a serious audiophile, the iPod's headphones do not do the player justice. Listening with them may have given you a poor impression of the iPod. Getting a good pair of Bose or Klipsch headphones may make the iPod a more attractive choice.

In response to Trippytiger, I'm going to have to second the Creative and Archos products. Avoid Sony. Actually, avoid all three of them...but if you have to, go Creative or Archos.

ha....haha.........ha. That was only funny for about a second:roll:

As trippy stated.

Archos Gmini220

or

XS200

I myself, Have a Samsung YH-925. I like it. But, I've been seriously contemplating my next move on the portable media player market.

I've been checking the Archos PMA400, and the new 700 series. But, on the other hand, I want a new Sharp Zaurus C3100 as well for a all-in-one tool.

Well, I never said it was a great choice, but it is incredibly tiny. Good battery life, too, at least with ATRAC3.

OP: Another pretty small DAP is the Cowon iAudio M3. The only screen is on the remote, which is a bit weird, but if that isn't a problem, it's very slim and comes in 20GB and 40GB variants.

I was just reading about the Archos not five minutes ago!
Will definitely look more into that - thanks🙂
