I think any of the ones you can find on ebay with a silicon image chip should generally be good for that purpose.

I haven't used that particular Silicon Image chip. Do the SATA drivers for that chip give you the option to "Safely Remove" a disk attached to that eSATA port? Thanks.

Edit:
Sorry, I didn't realize you were the orignal poster. Obviously you haven't tried this card yet. I've had good luck with Silicon Image SATA chips, but the way they work, as issued, they don't give a "safely remove" option. Windows thinks the attached SATA drive is a "permanent" drive and won't be removed. As long as the writes are complete before you yank the drive, all should be well.

Others on this forum have also point to third-party software that will offer a "Safely Remove" option for eSATA controllers that don't offer that natively.

Assuming this controller is for a separate disk for removable storage, then "No". It has its own BIOS extension and is independent of any of your main BIOS settings.

well everything arrived today, esata did not impress me. i averaged only 16-18 mb\sec with it. i then tried the USB2 connection on the MX-1 and got 20-22 mb\sec with it. is there some setting i am missing for esata? i let vista install the driver for it. is that a mistake? i tranfered over 15gb of files in both cases.
