As I move into my first house I'm excited to buy my first grill. I'm single and will likely only be cooking for myself or me and my girlfriend 80% of the time.

I'm thinking of the following two grills:

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned Sportsman's Charcoal Grill

and

Weber 1520 Propane Gas Go-Anywhere Grill

Right now I'm leaning towards the Lodge. It seems to be able to give steaks that crust on the outside I'd like to have.

Anyone have any comments? I've never grilled before but I do a decent amount of cooking on the stove.

I came close to make this same exact thread the other day. I'm probably just going to go with whichever Weber is within my price range. Wal Mart has some decently priced Uniflame grills, but I don't think they're very good quality.

I think alot of it comes down to skill. I'm no expert (far from it) but I can make steaks exactly how I want them using a cheap "Fiesta Grill" brand gas grill. I always wanted a Weber but the price seems to high. I'm sure their heat distrobution and build quality is better but at this point I can do what I want for cheaper, so I do.

Of those two you linked the charcol is better, if you know how to use it. For speed the mini weber will kick the others butt but those small version are always cheaply made and never seem to work all that well. I'm personally terrible at charcol grills so I like the gas but if you take some time to develope good skill with it they will kick that gas grills butt.

Hope that helps.

Buy a Weber. I listened to one of their salesmen talk about the product to Home Depot employees. I thought it was pretty neat that a lid from their 1950 kettle grill still fits the one that you can buy today. On the way to the meeting, he stopped by and replaced someone's burner tube under warranty. That's pretty good service..

Weber has great build quality and service. That's why they cost more.

They'll send parts if something breaks, and the warranty on most of the grill is long. Their grills tend to last longer, too. My dad got 20 years out of his last one, not covering it ever for rain, snow, whatever. I just got one and it didn't have the right ignitor installed, they sent me a new kit (including the knob, which was missing) with no questions at all, except the serial # for the grill.

I expect this one to last a long time.

Why not a full size grill versus a mini? No point in owning a house without a full size one. (For having friends over, etc) You get the mini ones for an apartment.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll end up just ordering it off amazon. I don't move in for another 2 weeks and I'll have it delivered then. That way it's one less thing to lug over.

Oh.. yeah. I forgot to mention one other thing about Weber. MADE IN USA!!
As I type, I'm eating left over pork chops cooked on the 18" Weber. :) Very sturdy and durable. It's gone through a few seasons sitting in the rain and snow and the dome cooking area is still in perfect condition.

The convenience and temp control of gas is unsurpassed. If you get gas you'll likely use it much more frequently and thus enjoy it much more. Charcoal grilling is great too, but is a pia imo. There are numerous threads on this debate.

As for a 'go-anywhere' small grill vs a larger one, you're balancing portability and small footprint vs. lower propane costs when buying the larger tanks (unless it can use an adapter of some sort.)
