I'm wanting to get a laptop that I can do some gaming on. I have about $1400-$1600 to spend on it. I was looking at the ASUS G2 series, and the Dell Inspiron 1720 series. I'm not looking for anything top of the line just some that will allow me to play some FPS and RTS games on it. Doesn't have to play them at MAX settings or anything like that.

I really like the looks of the ASUS G2 series, my question about them is it worth $150 to go from the AMD verison with the ATI 2600 HD to the Intel verison with the 8600M GT?

See this thread about a 17" gaming notebook with 8800GTS video.

It was as low as $1250 last week, but unfortunately I think went back up to $1700 now, but still better than a $1600 notebook with merely an 8600 series card.

Yea, and looks like they have 0% for 12 months on XPS systems right now, which make it a sweet deal.
