I will be using it for some off roading, but it will be my main vehicle for normal driving as well. I am just wondering what would be a good year to get. Which years have the best options. I used to have a 94 and it was pretty trashy on the interior. I'd prefer not to get a brand new one as I don't have a lot of money here. LMK what you got to say about it. Any sites with info would be great. I have already visted the main jeep site, but thats not a huge help as it only has 2001-02. I like the new sound package though, the 6 speaker with the sub in the center console deal, is that only on the 2000+ models or how far back can you get that setup?

I would get a 1995 or previous Jeep if you are going to be doing serious off roading. You won't pay as much as a newer model so you don't have to worry about dinging it up. If the interior is in bad shape (scratched) you can get a spray on truck bedliner put in and maybe even match it to your paint.

If you need the six speaker stereo then you should definitely get one with a hard top and full hard doors. I had 4 radios taken out of my Jeep and one of my windows sliced in the process. Or if you want good offroad performance and a nice stereo look into a Grand Cherokee. True you won't be able to take the top off, but your ride will be nicer and you can put a nice stereo in there. If you want to get a sub in a 91-95 Wrangler, look at this:

to add to what thrillhou said--- Hard Tops are a must if you have nice stereo stuff, my roomates jeep has been broken into 3 times in the past year and a half.

why get a jeep for a daily commuter? You might be able to get a used pathfinder or explorer for a pretty good price.. They'll do just as good offroad, and you wont have to deal with all the problems that jeeps have.

I bought a 99 about 3 weeks ago, and I'm sorry I did. Since you already owned one though, you already know how they are to drive. I took mine on a long test drive (twice) and still didn't realize how uncomfortable they are to drive (no where to rest your left arm because the door is so thin, arm rest on the right so low you lean over trying to let your arm actually rest on it.) Like I said though, you already had one, so you know what it's like to drive.

btw, I got a 99 I'll sell ya! :D

I have a '98 and am happy with it. The new suspension on the '97 and later makes for a nicer ride on the everyday commute. I put in 6.5" Infinities in the sound bar and bass in the back powered by a 4ch amp. It sounds OK, but I have to crank it up so loud to overcome the road noise (eaven with a hard top) that I'm going deaf.

It works good for moderate off-road trails. Definatly get the hard top and the 6 cylinder engine.

I did say some offroading, not a lot, so I don't need something really old. I have had one, and I felt that it drove just fine on road and it was a 1994. As someone said the newer models ride even better. I had my soft top sliced and a bunch of stuff stolen as well, so i will prolly get both tops and an alarm. But I also don't need to put a huge system in it. AS long as it sounds decent, thats fine by me. My 94 had a couple of Pioneer 6x9"s and a couple of RF Punch 10" subs powered by a RF amp. It wasn't that powerful of a system though. I don't think the subs were more then 200watts a piece, but I actually think they were less then that. I have been looking around and have found that you can buy accesories for a wrangler to add the sub in the center console, as well as one in the back under the add a trunk, those combined with the 6 speaker audio would prolly sound good enough for me, the only thing i would change is possiblly the deck. But for the better ride and more modern interior, I should prolly go with a 97 or newer?
