Looking at building a hardcore overclocking system - how are my specs?

PSU is overkill. So is the case.

Save some money there and get a 8800GTS (if you are more than a casual gamer).

You could easily get a Corsair 520HX/Enermax Liberty 500W/Seasonic S12 or M12 500W PSU to save some nice coin. Hell, people are running 8800GTX SLI with the Corsair 620HX.

My school-of-thought says a $225+ case better be housing some hardcore equipment.

I wanted a really good cooling environment because of the overclocking, a good enough power supply for when I decide to get the 8800GTX (the video card in the system would replace the X800XL in the current system).

Any suggestions on a very good PSU and case?

The Corsair 620HX is available for ~$145 on Zipzoomfly.com (and $170 with a $15 MIR on Newegg).

50A on the 12V rail means you could easily run 8800GTS SLI and an overclocked Quad-Core CPU. It's made by Seasonic, has universally excellent reviews, modular, 5 year warranty and all the good stuff. You can get and be covered for quite a few upgrades.

Large cases for the next wave of super-long GPUs: I like the Coolermaster Stacker 810 and the Thermaltake Armor chassis. They are plenty roomy (bring on the 8800GTX and R600 baby!) and have good cooling.

These two mid towers with a 250mm side fan (plus up to twin 120mm's) might be worth a look. I went with the Chakra, a Zalman fan controller and Scythe fluid bearing fans, although I haven't got it yet so I can't give you a first hand account. The Antec p180 also seems to be a popular choice (especially with the silent computing folks), but I was concerned about fitting an Nvidia 8800 into that particular case.

dood I agree get the 8800 if your a hardcore gamer...
As for power supply you are fine with that power supply. Over kill or not get the thing you will be happy!!!

The mainborad is not a good one for hard core overclock. I is a good overclocker but for hard core obtain the GA-965P-DS4 or the GA-965P-DQ6.

The DS3 seems to do well enough, from anecdotal evidence. The S3 can do even better at times. Mine gets 3.22 easy, and duvie and markffw have 5 between them at 3.5Ghz.
