Looking at a new lcd

Yeah I understand how to work a filter. perhaps I should be more clear, I am looking for recomendations about specific Lcd's from people who have had a chance to interact with them, as its hard to judge on the internet.

Response time isn't everything...

And you might consider the Dell 2005FPW. Wonderful monitor. The Dell 1905FP is great too, but I'm personally a fan of the widescreen aspect ratio.

Response time is over-rated for all but hardcore gamers. I have an NEC 1760NX LCS, with a 6ms response - and poor colors (they are interprelated, as nearly all fast-response time panels are) and viewing angle. Does it ghost? Nope, never. Fantastic for the occasional gaming I do.

If I keep my head perfectly in-front, and don't edit Photoshop with it, it's great. But I like to move occasionally, and then it gets color shifts, etc. And forget about sharing the screen with someone else...doable, but they see different colors.

Unless you are a hard-core gamer, ignore the fastest panels...

Woah slow down there moneybags.

Dell has deals on a pretty regular basis and finding coupons online has proven fruitful for many people on this forum. Many here have gotten these dell monitors pretty cheap. I've seen the 2005FPW as low as $389 after coupons.

very true i am a pretty hardcore gamer i am in the processes of saving for the 2005fpw 🙂 so if you have the money and you like widescreen go for it. The 2001fp is also a nice monitor.

Go to viewsonics web page and check out their new gaming LCD's. I havent seen them on Newegg yet and I took a trip to BestBuy to see if they carried em and no luck. Going to have to take a 40 mile trip to CompUSA to check them out.

What dell site are you looking at? I see it for $699 (which is way expensive, it was about $500 a couple of weeks ago without rebates/coupons)

Coupons aren't on the dell site. Check the hotdeals forum, coupons are posted there on a regular basis. Google for other sites that post coupons... Wait for a sale too.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 930B. It is 19", has 8ms response time, 700:1 Contrast ratio, and of course DVI. I bought it for $350 at BestBuy (rebate included) back in May. I love the thing!

Yeah, don't know what website you are going to but it sure as hell isn't dell.com. They are selling for MSRP now of 699.99 and you find the coupons by using this wonderful thing called google. You just have to have keep an eye out for the coupons and it can be down under 400 with shipping and tax.

check out reviews first. Usually the responce time will be a lot higher than whats claimed. New ISO stanrard fixes that, but not many companies comply with that.

Every few weeks you'll see a sale for the 2005FPW that brings it down to roughly $450-500, sometimes as lowa s $400. It's a very nice monitor, I know because I have one and great for gaming, even FPS's. Please be aware that while the 2005FPW is a 20.1" LCD, because of it's widescreen ratio, the dimensions of the screen height is slightly higher than a standard 17" LCD's height. It's still one nice LCD that I haven't regretted buying. I'm thinking of adding a second one. One in portrait mode for web browsing and picture viewing/editing and other uses and one in landscape for gaming.
