Have I flamed anyone for their recommendation? Just the ones given either have been the wrong requirements or no better on mileage.

Heck, I'd love a late M5...perhaps a 2009 CTS-V also.

If I had $40k to spend those would move up the list. While I could afford it, the is a lot more I can do with my money than having an $800-1000 car payment.

The more I think about it, the gas mileage may not be that 'bad'.

My commute is going to be a 62mile round trip. I am thinking even if I got a more miserly car I may only save $100-150 tops and have to give up the fun of driving the car I want.

62 mile commute in S. Florida sounds like lots of stop and go traffic...gas will not be cheap.

It's a pure highway commute. I am 1/4 mile from the on ramp and the office a little more than that getting off. My start/end time is flexible so I'd be traveling non-rush hour. Should end up being close to 90% highway mileage I use the car for.

I have been looking at some of the Mercedes since I have been considering an automatic now. There is a lot of nice choices in their lineup, but I haven't found any that call out to me that I want to spend the coin on.

Taurus SHO?

It's a nice car, but not aggressive enough nor turning the performance I want.

If I were looking at non-SRT8 models it'd be on my top list. I was actually hopeful when I first saw it even though the body is a bit tame.

It's a decent performer and turns incredible gas mileage.

If you've got an almost all highway commute and are considering stuff up in MB pricerange, definitely check out the 335d...I think once at speed, you'll be hard pressed to find a better cruiser that returns great gas mileage - 36mpg EPA (which underrates diesels no less) highway isn't too shabby.

You said you wanted a fun car because it's going to be almost all your driving, but now you're looking at Mercedes with automatics? You must be getting old.

It's clean and perfectly proportioned. It's from the days before Infiniti and Nissan gave all their cars arched roofs, ugly vertical headlights, etc

It may be clean, it may be 'perfectly proportioned' (which sounds like a personal thing to me, but it's your pic, so that's fine), but, it's a completely boring looking car. Boring. There is absolutely zero exciting about that car.

If I pulled up to that car at a stoplight, and there was a Toyota Avalon next to it, I'd say, Look, two bland F'ing Toyota's. My mom is sitting here on the couch, and I asked her to look at it. Her comment: Is that a smaller Grand Marquis!??!

Case closed.
