Looking at a couple laptops- look em over for me please

Just wondering if you guys who know laptops can take a second and look at these two laptops for me. I'll be getting one of them for my sister, and my number one concern is reliability. She'll literally only be using it for surfing the internet and school stuff-- don't worry about the RAM, if I need more to deal with Vista's whorish attitude I'll pick it up at Christmas.

Right now I'm eyeing up the Toshiba, mainly because I've heard better things lately about Intel processors than AMD. It's also got the HD bonus, though she's never gonna fill it up. Thanks guys.

They are both very very similar but I probably lean towards the Toshiba. The processors should be pretty equal though I haven't seen any direct comparison's between them. The Toshiba has faster ram and a bigger HD. It also has a webcam. The Dell has a faster burner, a firewire port, and an additional USB port. The Dell also has scroll zones on the trackpad which can be a godsend if she isn't using an external mouse. Reliablitly wise they should be pretty similar as well. I have had very good luck with the Dell's I have had. I beat the hell out of a Inspiron 4000 through four years of college and ti never gave me a bit of trouble. My wife has had an XPS 1530 since May and it has been doing problem free. I haven't had any direct experience with Toshiba's.

Aesthetically the Toshiba looks a lot better.

I like the look of the Toshiba too. As for the extra usb and firewire, doubt she'll use the latter and I can always get her a $10 hub if she needs more usb slots. She will also be using an external mouse-- so you're right, the scroll zone, while it would be nice to have, is not a deal breaker. Thanks Boomhower
