I?m getting into the dSLR market, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out a little with my lens options. There?s a possibility I might a 350D, which would come with a tamron 55-200 lens, and I?m at a loss as to what other lens(es) I should get. The canon 50mm f/1.8 II seems to be highly recommended, but I?d still like something with a smaller focal length. It would have to be rather inexpensive--I know I?m going to get yelled at--which had me thinking about the kit lens, or maybe the tamron 28-80, but I was wondering if you guys had any other ideas.

Yikes. $100 is going to really restrict you...badly. The kit lens really is your only choice in that range. The nifty 50 is a tack sharp, high speed lens that will serve you well for some things. But you'll really miss out on some wide(r) angle shots.

If you can somehow nab both the 50 f1.8 and the kit lens for under $100 that'll work until you have a little more money to spend on something a little faster and/or sharper.

Buy just a body and get a 28mm f/2. This will give you a focal length of about ~45mm, which is a good normal length to learn the ins and outs of photography.

You guys have any suggestions regarding the Tokina AF193 19-35mm, f/3.5-4.5 vs. the kit lens?

Whatever you get, keep in mind that the camera has a 1.6 focal length, so any lens, multiply it by 1.6.

I don't know anything about the wide lenses for that low of a price except for the kit lens, which is a decent lens at higher aperture values. You can get one for around $60 on ebay or a FS photo forum. But I do believe you'll want something to fill the 18-55mm range. Just realize that the lenses you'll have are budget lenses. If you think your pictures come out too fuzzy too often, realize that a lot of it may be due to the lens.
