My DD is an 08 Forester XS. I plan to keep this.
Woman doesn't have a car, but she hitchhikes rides on her moms 90s era Explorer and the two of them do all their shopping together and what not.
Looking for a comfortable long road trip car that is perfectly happy on mountain roads & going up steep grades without slowing down that has lots of leg room and wide seats and good back support with easy ingress and egress and plenty of room for bringing a bunch of misc crap, as well as possibly travelling buddies.
Also, the car will serve a secondary purpose of being the grocery getter for the woman, as well as being my backup to get me to the office for when the forester needs to go for maintenance.
I know the fuel economy is awful.
I also know that parts are expensive for Volvo.
Online reviews generally are positive, but build quality, maintenance, and repair costs are usually things people complain about ...
Is this a model to avoid?
Is it a model to only consider with extended mfg warranty package?
Is it a model only good for wrenchers? (I don't do anything more advanced than change a tire or jump a dead battery)
The one in particular that I'm considering was leased for 4 years, then sold to the person who leased it, then traded in back to the same dealer where it was originally sold. most maintenance (including even oil changes) were handled by the original dealer. Carfax looks very clean.
I've mostly been looking at 3.6R Outbacks, post-unibody Explorers & Durangos, as well as some full size sedans (though I much prefer a wagon) and anything else mid to full size under 20K price point ... and thus far, this is the only one that jumps out at me.
(The woman loves Durangos, but I had some not so good experiences with Chrysler in the past, so not really on my short list, but #1 on her short list thus far.)
Also, I know jlee has VERY highly recommended Lexus GX, but they are simply priced out of my range unless I start looking at very old cars... and I don't want to deal with rotted old wire insulation, fuel or break lines or anything of that nature. I want a "put in gas & drive" type of car.
So, 2010 XC60 T6 ... avoid because it will be $$$$$ to maintain, or costs should be pretty managable (under 2-3K maintence/repair costs annually?) and worth serious consideration?
