Looking at a 2010 Volvo XC60 T6 with about 75K miles on the clock

My DD is an 08 Forester XS. I plan to keep this.
Woman doesn't have a car, but she hitchhikes rides on her moms 90s era Explorer and the two of them do all their shopping together and what not.

Looking for a comfortable long road trip car that is perfectly happy on mountain roads & going up steep grades without slowing down that has lots of leg room and wide seats and good back support with easy ingress and egress and plenty of room for bringing a bunch of misc crap, as well as possibly travelling buddies.

Also, the car will serve a secondary purpose of being the grocery getter for the woman, as well as being my backup to get me to the office for when the forester needs to go for maintenance.

I know the fuel economy is awful.
I also know that parts are expensive for Volvo.

Online reviews generally are positive, but build quality, maintenance, and repair costs are usually things people complain about ...

Is this a model to avoid?
Is it a model to only consider with extended mfg warranty package?
Is it a model only good for wrenchers? (I don't do anything more advanced than change a tire or jump a dead battery)

The one in particular that I'm considering was leased for 4 years, then sold to the person who leased it, then traded in back to the same dealer where it was originally sold. most maintenance (including even oil changes) were handled by the original dealer. Carfax looks very clean.

I've mostly been looking at 3.6R Outbacks, post-unibody Explorers & Durangos, as well as some full size sedans (though I much prefer a wagon) and anything else mid to full size under 20K price point ... and thus far, this is the only one that jumps out at me.

(The woman loves Durangos, but I had some not so good experiences with Chrysler in the past, so not really on my short list, but #1 on her short list thus far.)

Also, I know jlee has VERY highly recommended Lexus GX, but they are simply priced out of my range unless I start looking at very old cars... and I don't want to deal with rotted old wire insulation, fuel or break lines or anything of that nature. I want a "put in gas & drive" type of car.

So, 2010 XC60 T6 ... avoid because it will be $$$$$ to maintain, or costs should be pretty managable (under 2-3K maintence/repair costs annually?) and worth serious consideration?

Thanks. Durango is only on her short list because it's got a shitton of space and is easy to get in and out of for her disabled mom. Much like the explorer.

my short list is
1.) outback 3.6R 2010-2013MY
2.) outback 2.5 2014-2015MY (underpowered, won't be fun car, but should be very practical)
3.) 2012+ Ford Explorer

Anyhow, this post mostly doesn't matter any more ...
The XC60 I was going to go look at on Saturday has been sold / no longer listed on the dealers site. There really aren't any other comparable T6 XC60s for sale. There are a number of t6 XC60s in the 30K range, and a number of much older cars or ones with 150K+ miles ... but looks like I missed the boat here.

My wife and I rented a Chevy Tahoe last summer and we both really liked it. Very comfortable, tons of room, easy to maneuver. Horrible fuel economy though and I'm not sure how reliable they are.

Lots of Tahoe's in our price range, and their reputation is not bad (GM full sized trucks supposed to be very good.) GM invested a TON of resources into the GMT900 platforms.
It is a model we are considering, and might be a compromise we agree on. And yes, the fuel economy is quite bad, but, to be perfectly honest, the economy is actually pretty similar to the Volvo that piqued my interests.

I've been casually looking over options for a few months, and likely I have a few months before I will want to buy, but nothing jumped out at me as much as the XC60 that I saw posted last night....

How about a Honda Pilot?

I haven't ruled them out entirely, but they are known to have some issues with road noise, even with tire upgrades. One of the worst things about my forester is the road noise. There just isn't enough sound insulation in the car. We want a car where you don't hear road noise and wind noise cruising along at a comfortable 75mph or so. At 75, it should sound nearly silent.

Anyhow, really I'm just wondering ... general vibe ... 2010 Volvo ... good idea ... or high risk/possible terribad idea?

Volvo have mixed reliability. Either be prepared to do things yourself or find a good mechanic.

I do agree that Hondas do tend to have a bit more road noise. How about a Highlander?

I own a 2011 Volvo XC60 and pretty happy with it. I've had no real maintenance issues. I believe 2010 was the first year of the model.

Or a pre-loved Lexus RX350.

Hard limit for budget is around 20K (or about 18-19K car price since sales tax, registration, etc all add up).
Lots of RX300s and some RX330s in my price point, RX350 at that price point will have a lit more miles ..

Anyhow, it doesnt matter. the XC60 I wanted to look at is sold, it was 2K under KBB and dissapeared pretty quick.

We will test some of the cars at Asia motors (they sell mostly used cop cars) http://www.asiamotorsinc.com/ .. they have lots of big cars and SUVs and tend to be pretty affordably priced. Not anything like Volvo, but should be able to get something that can cruse highways nicely and comfortably.

But Im a Subaru fanboy, and love my 08 forester XS, and pretty convinced I wont find many options better than the Outback 3.6R...

THanks all

Highlander I had a hard time finding one in my budget that was relatively new. At that point I may as well just go straight for a 35 year old land cruiser, since at least a land cruiser will appreciate in value rather than depreciate...

Thanks for the reply, I've read a lot of reviews and people either are happy or upset .. seems like luck of the draw, though maybe proper maintenance/care is more imporant in this case, I dont know ...
