Looking Alternatives to Netflix

Was paying $17, now $30.

I like the queue interface and getting current movies...

Is there anything comparable to switch to for 1/2 the price?

No comparable streaming alternatives for even more money.

All the legal streaming sites other than Netflix have terribly limited libraries.

Amazon has probably the next most competitive service because it's free for paying Prime members.

Seriously? Just stop using their stupid DVD mailing service and you'll be fine. Are this many customers fucking retarded? Here's a pro-tip, there's at least 1000 movies that come out a year. How old are you? How many movies have you seen? Odds are 95% or more of their streaming library you've never even watched before. Do you REALLY need to be such a sucker and pay more for THE BESTEST AND NEWESTESTS media? That's just a silly premise. Oh well this is why the company I work for makes money, finding out what it will take to get morons to buy new recycled crap.

Simply put, no. Even with the price hike you still can't beat the price and selection.

What are you spending $30 a month on anyways? Cut down on the number of DVDs you have out at a time if you think it's too expensive.

$30 wil buy you like 5 new release rentals on iTunes... There are deals though, so you could get more crappy oldies.

Hulu plus - gets you a decent streaming library but no dvds for $7.99/mo

Netflix streaming is $8/month too and has a larger library. The Netflix app works better on my PS3, the queue in Hulu+ is less usable, and Hulu+ has ads even though you're paying for it.

Sure, there are tons of movies in the streaming library I haven't seen - but most of them suck. You think its a "silly premise" to pay more to have the best movies? I think its a silly premise to pay a monthly subscription fee to watch movies that are garbage - you're better off not having a subscription at all if that's the case.

Personally, until there is a better subscription streaming service, I think the best solution is to either

A) Cut out streaming entirely, stick with Netflix or Blockbuster's disc-by-mail service
B) Use a PPV streaming service, like Amazon. In fact, given the other advantages (and low cost) of Prime, it might be best to get Prime, and pay to rent movies that aren't a part of the subscription service.

I canceled my DVD plan when the prices went up because I honestly didn't get that many DVDs. On the rare occasion that there is a movie I really desperately want to see and it's not available to stream, I can usually go to a Redbox (if it's recent) or a Blockbuster (if it's not) to pick it up. Both of those services provide more instant gratification than Netflix's DVD plan anyway, which takes a day or two to get you your next movie.

Personally, I bought about half a dozen of those 3 month Netflix cards at Best Buy right after they announced the price hike. I basically prepaid for a year and a half of disk/streaming at $9/month. I figure by the time I use them all, either other streaming services will become more competitive or I'll drop the disks.

I can't believe people are choosing to drop physical media before streaming. The quality of streaming just isn't comparable.
