I want to listen to my MP3's in my company vehicle. Modifying anything is taboo so I need an FM transmitter and a player. I found this

but I haven't found anyone in the US with it. I've got a 256 meg pen drive so this *should* be what I need but I don't like the fact that it is outside the US. Any takers on this one???????

Thanks

Um, that's kinda nifty in a way.

What's your price range?

What's your mechanical aptitude? My first thought would be to put in a FM modulator - no cutting of wiring, just plugs inline in the radio's antenna (and it requires power, but big whoop) Likely have to pull the radio out to hook it up unless it so happens you can access the back of the radio by crawling under the dash on that vehicle.

Second would be to go with a separate mp3 player/fm transmitter combination. Or if you have some budget a good mp3 player with built in transmitter...thinking of Neuros here.

Device you found is interesting, but looks like it'd be a major pain in use. How do you navigate tracks with it?

Hey there McCarthy:

My mechanical aptitude is sufficient but I'm not too sure about my patience. If the vehicle were mine to keep I would yank the OEM stereo in a flash and give it away, but since it's not mine and I would rather go with an FM Transmitter. The one I found in the link looks interesting but I have to think that if it were really great they would be on the shelves here and they are not, at lest not that I've seen.

I haven't looked at MP3 options much. I'll search for the player\FM Transmitter in one and see what comes up. Would have done that already but I didn't know any existed. My plan as of last week was to find a player and then get the transmitter but that would be a PITA to have rolling around in the seat all the time. This one caught my eye when I saw it and liked the idea of just refreshing my memory stick and plugging it in the lighter socket.

Thanks much. I'll look around some more.

*EDIT* About track navigation? I have no idea. I guess you just plug it in and go with it. 😕
And the price range.... it depends on how well it fits my need. I really don't have a set range.

Most portable transmitters are similar to this Belkin. By running off AA batteries it's the most portable way to go, but those batteries are it's downside too. For your application battery powered transmitters don't seem practical.

Along a similar line of thought as the device you found would be this Car Star transmitter. Plugs into the cigarette lighter, then you plug in any player to it. No power concerns for the transmitter itself, transmitter would be secured instead of rolling around or taped to the dash. Wire coming from it to hook up to the player for the audio. If this thing works it and a standard player is what I'd suggest.

Don't know anything about that product beyond what's there on the page. Here's a similar product that may or may not be better, but costs more. One more of the same style here.

For an all in one solution I was thinking of the Neuros player. Up in the iPod price range and a lot different than what you were looking at, but worth mentioning. Think there are some less expensive players with built in transmitters too. No wires this way, only one piece of hardware to keep track of.

Finally, found where to buy the device you found. Right here. Straight out simplest way to go, but a plug style transmitter and seperate player is still what I'd do. Whichever you decide, enjoy!
