I don't know much about it, other than it's circa 1978, and was the same calclulator that my father used while earning his master's degree in Computer Science.

I don't have any 9-volt batteries around, and can't wait to see this thing in action.

I'm thinking of using it on the SAT just to show you don't need a high end calculator for that test, unlike what so many of my friends believe. I'm just worried the batteries will crap out. I think I'll end up using the SR-40 but bringing my 86 just in case.

Any "old-timers" remember this one?

The rear of the calculator looks awfully blurry. I'm glad newer calcs don't have that problem anymore.

In other yet even more nonsensical news, you may be able to sell that calculator on ebay for a mere 1 million USD if it is a classic, or has Britney Spear's anal gaseous emissions trapped inside of it.

Actually, the one I have is this.

HP-41C: introduced in 1979 at a price of $295! link

I have no idea where it came from... it has just been sitting here for a long time.

True story:

When those first came out a classmate of mine bought one, and she stopped over where I was working at the rec center on the way to the library. I asked her if she would let us check it out until she got back from the library and she agreed.

My co-worker cooked up a little prank while she was gone. When she got back, he told her that there was a little problem with her brand-new calculator. He said that we must have used it too much because we used up all the 8's - every time there was supposed to be an 8 in the display, it was blank. But it wasn't really a problem, he said, because she would know that all the blank spaces were really 8's.

She said, "Oh, that's just great, you JERKS! So what the hell am I supposed to do when the NEXT number runs out?"

You don't need a high end calc on the SAT - but my 89 will serve the function well, simply because it's handy, just as everyone and their dog's TI-83+'s will.

I don't really even recall using a function that I couldn't do on one of those solar calculators, but it's nice to have so many lines for display.

Man, I'm still trying to find the old TI-99 we've had since the early 80s. Even had the voice modulator for it (this is 6-7 years before Adlib and the first soundblaster.)

Y'know, if you push multiple buttons simultaneously on some of those old calculators, lots of weird symbols pop up. Or at least on my old one.

Wow! I remember using one of those when I was in college. Can't remember how much I paid for it. I know I'm keeping it somewhere in my collection of old stuff.

I rememeber those, they were very expensive..

Texas Instruments was very big into electronics, early computers.

Good quality equipment.

They were a good company to work for in the late 1970's.

I worked for one of their subsidiaries, they used to be open 24/7,
i suggested closing Friday night at 11pm-till Sunday 11 pm.

We would often, run out of work on Sunday, and Monday,i said if we are doing "make work",why not close Saturday & Sunday, and give everyone the weekend off, instead of the darned various days off.

They took my suggestion!
