The Billion-Transistor Budget: A Different Kind of Real-Estate Development
John Crawford, Intel Fellow, Enterprise Platform Group, Intel Corporation
How best to use a billion transistors? The opportunities and challenges of that question are now facing processor developers. The computing industry has followed Moore's Law for the last three decades, doubling transistors every two years, and doubling the delivered performance every 18 months. Now, architects must deliver more than raw clock rate. Reducing and managing power, and building in a broad range of capabilities beyond clock rate, will need to take advantage of new process technologies in the next decade. This presentation will explore those developments and explain their implications for Intel's future technology and product roadmaps.
