Doom3 supports widescreen, you just have to enable it though the console or .cfg file.

Ok had my dinner and ran same test as above but with 16xAA and i get 29-31FPS so i have halfed my FPS count from no AA to 16x AA, i see no difference in games looks but slightly laggy to play so i leave it of and 1600x1200 all rest settings maxed will do, i not even bother with any AA.

This is 1st game i cant ideally max and play decently, but N40 is jsut about 1 year old (prob is but from time of launch).

Splinter Cell 3 CT demo was a sync all maxed but may be its different as not openGL.

I formatted when I was 1/3 the way through Doom 3, and never got around to playing it again, but I think I will have to just so I can check out this expansion.

That really doesnt make any sense, why do you need 16x AA at 1600x1200? 1600x1200 with quincux has no aliasing at all.

And is 16xAA even an option? Last i knew 8x was the max.

He is probally setting it to 16x AF, not AA.

I doubt he'll get those framerates even with 8x AA.

Above seems to be for original Doom3 and states "GENERALY, not DONT HAVE"

QUOTE "Full Screen Anti Aliasing"

"Curiously, our NVIDIA drivers have a slider for 16X AA. This is generally unsupported outside of the Quadro cards for NVIDIA on Windows. Attempting to run Doom3 on 16X AA resulted in less than 10FPS during the demo1 timedemo. In fact, we can enable 2X Bilinear, 2X Quincunx, 4X Bilinear or 4X 9-tap Gaussian, 8X or 16X AA. We have a simple analysis, which follows, of the below image under various AA settings"

As you all know now we dont normally touch sliders in drivers its all in the games, so its "application controled".

I do see "8xS" so not sure but you arent going to game on a Quadro you use that for CAD etc you game on like of this 6800 U, setting in games real and i see drop in FPS, i will however try rest of inbetween settings but i will play with no AA.

I see no option for AF in Doom 3 ROE, may be as its openGL, no clue.

Well the 6800 cards are only able to do 8X AA, so even if you choose 16X it'll revert to 8X.

And yes, 8X would be too much for any single card out right now. I think 4X is too much for a 6800U at stock speeds (the framerates would be too low for the majority of people).

The AF is automatically set depending on what quality setting you choose (so if you set it to Ultra, you'll get x16 AF).

FWIW, the cards are quite capable of it... nVidia's drivers merely don't expose the functionality through the control panel at this point in time. There are a good 7-9 different FSAA modes that are functional, with but not unveiled through the drivers.

the quadro cards let u do 16xAA,

the hardwares there to do it, but like people have said, its too much to be useful. heck 4xAA is pushing it at times on the 6800's, NV may have come along way with their AA and AF algorithms, but they still cant touch Ati

humey do you run linux?

Hey I loved Doom3. I happen to like "horror" type games, and I played Doom 3 to the last level.

There is no other game I can say that about last year.

People have different tastes. I listen to TOOL, Cracker, and classical almost exclusively these days. You might think that all sucks and listen to country, doesn't mean either of us is "right".

If you love scary games try playing Far Cry... those monsters jump out of the craziest places on REALISTIC difficulty settings... those things scared the beejebus out of me.

The really anonying thing about Doom3 is the really ugly banding when there is any fog.

ROE seems to run as well as the original Doom 3 on my 6800U, apart from the X-Ray wall area which does dip a bit.

Thats decent taste in music. Tool is ok. Not my favorite, but not the worst.
SLI and Tool? Man, you really are down with the kids arent you? And you claim to be so old. ;)

The most mainstream music I listened to was Alice in Chains.
Beyond that I dont like a whole lot of big names. And I think I like music like that because it was what was popular when I was in high school.

I also like Fear Factory and In Flames (killer European melodic metal).. all more high school year bands.. but I just havent heard anything else that I like.

Oh, and Doom3 did rock, just in the DOOM way. Nothing more or less.

PS. If you like classical, as I do.. then you will love the intricate guitar developments in early (Colony and prior) In Flames albums.

You may not realize it, but metal and classical are very much alike. Its actually an indicator of higher intelligence IMO to like both, or either. Not always, but never underestimate those peoples intelligence who are into classical or metal.
