Zimbabwe inflation hits new high

Zimbabwe's annual inflation rate - already the world's highest - has soared to 231,000,000%, newly released official figures for July show.

The rise - from 11,200,000% last month - was largely due to increases in the prices of bread and cereals.

Iceland halts all share trading

Geir Haarde on the 'painful process' facing the banking industry

Iceland has suspended trading on its stock exchange in an attempt to prevent further panic spreading throughout the country's financial markets.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7660511.stm

"What we have learnt from this whole exercise is that it is not wise for a small country to try to take a leading role in international banking," Haarde told reporters. "We are too small to sustain a banking system that has become too big."

Probably because you're ignorant.
Iceland is paradise, but only people who've been there would know that.

Even with their current economic troubles its still probably a nicer place to live right now.

One day I'll go back and grab myself a nice little viking girl.

EDIT:
Sorry, I didnt mean ignorant as in "typical dumb American". I just meant you should visit a country before making a comment like that.
Iceland has all the moderness and culture of a typical northern European country but without all the arrogance.
It also has all the fun insanity of America but lacking the insane ignorance of everything outside it. In other words, its like the US would be if it werent "californicated".

I wouldn't mind living in Iceland at all, Zimbabwe on the other hand...

Now some believe that Iceland, which has transformed itself from one of Europe's poorest countries to one of its wealthiest in the space of a generation, could face bankruptcy (BusinessWeek.com, 10/8/08). In a televised address to the nation, Prime Minister Geir Haarde conceded: "There is a very real danger, fellow citizens, that the Icelandic economy in the worst case could be sucked into the whirlpool, and the result could be national bankruptcy."

Would personal debt be forgiven if a whole nation went bankrupt?

.

I've been there. Wasn't too impressed. Nowhere near paradise. The environment looks like a barren wasteland.(sorta like the moon). Winter there was warmer than here, but I actually went many days without seeing the sun. I enjoy sunshine. "Oops missed the 30 minutes of less than dark time today, maybe ill catch it tomorrow." Most of the people I met looked pale, pasty and unhealthy due to the lack of sunlight exposure.
But to each their own.
